Berufsschüler in Europa
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The „Berufliche Schulen am Gradierwerk“ (BSG) are attended by pupils and students in the departments social management, higher secondary vocational school for economics and administration, health and care as well as part-time vocational school (above all in wholesale and industry). For students in the technical college for social services nursery schools and primary schools are the hosting institutions. This group of students hasn’t often got any experience with travelling abroad and no high standard of self-competence and flexibility. Therefore an internship abroad fosters key skills, not only those concerning professional and methodological competences as well as competences in the foreign language. They get to know to cultural standards and values, they experience different pedagogical concepts, bilingualism in the daily routine (knowing English as “Lingua Franca”). The students’ self-awareness is strengthened and they get open for the new, especially in the field of the pedagogic work with children with migrant background and/or with children from refugees. The lessons in the foreign language (English or Spanish) are organized for the second half of the school year, straight before the internship. The students of the higher secondary vocational school and those of the part-time vocational school have a good command of accomplishments (secondary school leaving certificate respectively A levels or Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education, AVCE). Globalization and the confluence of markets have influence on professional life. The knowledge of the English language, additionally intercultural competences, have become inevitable regarding the economic cooperation on the Single European Market. An internship abroad completes the students’ qualifications required internationally. It enlarges their knowledges in the foreign language and their professional ability to perform as well as their intercultural comprehension and they are more competitive on the European job market. The students are trained in the foreign language for two years, two lessons per week, the four-week internship takes place in the end of the second year respectively in the end of class 11 or 12 of the higher secondary vocational school. The instruction is accompanied by preparing and post processing tutorials for the students. Another aim of the project is the achievement of the ability to self-organize. Therefore the students are involved in the process of finding suitable institutions and companies and accommodation abroad. They search independently and draw on the approved existing pool of internships. The mobility of the teaching staff to Italy (referring inclusion), Spain and Great Britain are a substantial enrichment of their competence: exchange of skills, sitting-in on classes in commercial vocational schools and maybe implementation of a student exchange with a Spanish vocational school. The project coordinator will make sure that the objectives of the Erasmus+ project mentioned above will always be contents of the contract between BSG Bad Nauheim, employer, student and receiving company and will monitor the observance of the contract. To reach comparability of the received competences, they will be described by using ECVET.
