This project has brought together young people from Germany and Luxembourg for a trip to Berlin for 5 days. The main topic of this youth exchange has been learning in an historical context. So the young people had the opportunity to learn from the city of Berlin in different ways. First, the issue of the second world war, and the special situation of Berlin in Germany. Than in a second step, the development of the 2 Berlins after second world war, with the creation of the DDR. The reality of 2 difficult situations, second world war and the reality of a state who didn't allow his citizens to live in freedom, conducted the reflection of the youngsters on the "peace project" Europe, and on how to really consider the benefits we have today from it. This main topics has been worked trough different methods: In the framework of a preparation day, the youngsters have been in touch with an author, Erny Lamborelle, who has recently published a book about the history of the reality of his family during world war II. This meeting was a special introduction to the theme of war, confronting the youngsters with the question how their own family has been confronted with the world war II, and also the issue that they might have had family members behaving not as they should have during this hard times, and that those history can have effects until today. But Erny Lamborelle maked it very clear, that no one has to feel responsible on actions family members did in the past. This first contact with the thematic was amplified in Berlin with visits and discussions guided by experts but also within the youngsters themselves. So the young peoples had the possibility to have an impression of the city of Berlin trough an exploration by foot and boat. This first impression has been spiced up with visits to Hackeche Höfe, Anne Frank Zentrum, Synagoge, East Side Gallery, DDR Museum, Wall of Berlin, Moschee, ... All visits were connected with an learning approach with discussions, explanations and guidance for personal and group reflection. After the youth exchange, the two groups organised a follow-up day in order to exchange on the learning outcomes and also to reflect together on a common next youth exchange.
