Start date: May 1, 2013,

The world of today is incredibly centered on an increasingly urban way of living. Cities are one of the few places where the population of people is increasing, although that is because people leave the rural areas for the cities. While it at many times bring a lot of benefits for these people, recent decades have shown just how much this is influencing the global ecology. In a city, consumption is not only an economic term, it is a way of living, followed by everyone. The ecological ramifications of this have become increasing severe and this has made people pay more and more attention to sustainable development practices. It is in such a way, that in cities all over the world communities have started their own gardens, growing vegetables, flowers and learning more about the natural world, not connected with the concrete jungle. While sceptics say that it is impossible to make such gardens productive and profitable, they miss the whole point - these gardens are a way for communities to come together, to learn and teach each other more about a natural and healthy way of life. This way, the garden becomes a way to build a community, to give it purpose and and ideas. This is the basic idea of the project "Community Garden" - to create a place where a community could gather, practically learn more about green ideas, share knowledge about the natural world. This garden would be created in two places: the district of Pilaitė, one of the newest and still expanding soviet style residential district of the city and the heart of the city, the Oldtown, where this garden would become a reminder of the natural world around them.
