BEI Staff training abroad
Start date: Aug 24, 2014, End date: Aug 23, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our school has got more than 1000 pupils divided in Primary School and Secondary School. ( ages 6 -14). The school is very interested in improving language skills of its students. The Primary School has been involved for four years in the BEI Project (Bilingual Education Italy) promoded by MIUR (Ministry of Public Education) and coordinated by the British Council. The 7 teachers of the school involved in the Bilingual Project teach Science and Geography through English to students from the age of 6 to 11. They work in team in order to prepare materials, lesson plans and curricula (there are no suitable books for the Bei Project at the moment). 354 students attend Bei classes, but next school year the percentage will rise up to 65% of the enrolled students of the Primary School. Many parents seem to appreciate the BEI methodology and enrol their sons at our school. The headmistress and three teachers of the school recently involved in the BEI Project, need to attend a training course in U.K. in order to: - acquire new innovative educational methods/curricula (CLIL course), - improve their linguistic skills, - improve their teaching and learning of foreign languages methodologies; - start international cooperation, international relations, and development cooperation; - consolidate the team working and cooperating abilities through a formative experience together. The agenda of the ISP courses in Shrewbury and Southampton selected by our team comes up perfectly to teacher’s expectations and needs. The courses are focused on CLIL Methodology and Materials. They provide primary teachers with many practical ideas for classroom activities, experience in planning CLIL lessons and ready-made materials on a variety of topics such as Art, Food, Teeth, Healthy Living, Animals and their habitats, Plants through the seasons, Water & Weather, The Solar System, Dinosaurs, Houses of the World. Our partner, International Study Programmes, who will provide the course(s) in the UK, is an organisation with 30 years experience in providing quality teacher development courses on behalf of European ministries of education and in-service teacher training institutions and as a Comenius/ Grundtvig Database course provider. The target groups of our dissemination activities will be firstly the students of our school who will benefit from the fresh teaching ideas and materials, which we will gain on the courses and secondly other teachers in our school and region. Information gained on the course(s) will be shared with other teachers through workshops in schools and at teachers’ conferences or blogs.
