Begründung und Erweiterung der interkulturellen Kompetenzen und der Projektmanagementkompetenzen zur Internationalisierung der Schule
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Background of the projectA large amount of our students are apprentices in one of the five regional conglomerates .These companies are all part of international as well as globally structured enterprises with subsidiaries both in the European neighbouring countries as well as worldwide. They all expect their employees to excel in mobility, language skills and intercultural competences. In order to teach these competences, stays abroad are an excellent possibility that should be taken into account. The goal of our school is to increase the number of such stays and we are both certified as “European School” and “School without Racism – School with Courage”.Our school is located in an industrial region and the amount of people who are migrants is very high. The city of Salzgitter is also very committed to find accommodation for the refugees and to help them with their integration. Some of the local companies also help by offering apprenticeships to the refugees. Our school helps as the regional , vocational center of competence and we already offer three classes to the refugees and will be taken on more of these students in the course of the year. Our devoted staff is already doing a great job concerning integration and inclusion, but the team “internationalization” is about to undergo a new structure. New and motivated members have to be trained so that they can continue the work of their predecessors in a successful way. It is their job to improve the intercultural competences of the staff as multipliers on a long and high scale. The teachers on the other hand are the ones to teach the students certain values and norms and to enable them to take part in an intercultural life.It is very important that this intercultural learning does not only take place during the time of the seminar but also during the rest of the week, so that this whole learning process has an intensive and log-lasting effect. Because of the participation in European on-the-job trainings, our teachers get the possibility to get to know possible project partners intensively, in order to plan exchange programmes, e-twinning or job-shadowing.Goals of the projectFirst, the intercultural and project management competences of the participants of the course shall be improved. Afterwards they act as multipliers to transfer their gained competences to an as big number of colleagues as possible. Number of participants: The overall four teachers should:-be open towards different cultures,-be willing to improve their skills and pass on what they learn,-have adequate language skills,-be sociable and willing to form networks,-be willing to spread the European idea among their colleagues and students,-be willing to integrate the European idea in their lessons and motivate other teachers to do this as well-Description of the measures-participation in intercultural courses for project management- implementation of certain measures at school, for example a fund raiser for refugees, an Arabic language course for teachers, offering jobs to teachers who have a migration background.Methodology for the implementation of the projectThe advanced training courses should make sure that intercultural competences are implemented in the lessons, as well as on the side of the participants as on a large number of the staff afterwards. For that to happen on a large scale it is necessary to improve the project management competence of the teachers. Only if European projects are institutionalized ,a continuous and long-term institutionalization can be established on a high level .Description of the aspired results and effects as well as potential long-term benefitsIt is expected that the visit of the seminars enables the teachers to provoke a motivational push concerning intercultural learning and intercultural cooperation among the staff. This push will lead to the teachers covering European projects in their lessons much more and with an increased motivation, which will then lead to the European idea, tolerance, respect and social inclusion not being only a topic in their lessons but also the principle of the lessons in all subjects and types of school. The intercultural, language and social competences of the students will improve, which will prepare them for the requirements on the European and international job market even more. The cooperation in a “School without Racism – School with Courage” is molded by a high amount of students with a migration background, who are more and more helping with the tutoring of the refugees and it will help to make this cooperation have even less conflicts and be more relaxed.
