Bodø videregående skole is a combined vocational and university-preparatory school with about 1450 pupils. The school plans to strengthen its teaching in foreign languages for the university-preparatory pupils in the next two years. What this means in concrete terms, is sending its German and Spanish teachers to the countries of their languages. Bodø videregående skole cooperates with the Evangelisches Kreuzgymnasium in Dresden, a cooperation which means that the German teachers in Bodø can attend classes at the gymnasium in Dresden for periods of 1-2 weeks. These stays may be combined with courses for teachers of German, in Germany, when possible.Additionally, Bodø videregående skole cooperates with the Cervantes Escuela Internacional in Malaga. This school gives courses for teachers of Spanish als a foreign language. What we plan, is letting our Spanish teachers take part in two weeks´ courses, where they learn about orally and practically orientated methods of teaching Spanish. We aim at letting our teachers take part in these activities at different periods through a period of two years. Through these stays at the school in Dresden and the language school in Malaga we would like to heighten the quality of the already good teaching of German and Spanish at our school. We expect even more motivated teachers, and more learning for our pupils. Besides we think the contact between our teachers and teachers in Germany and Spain will contribute to an international development of pedagogic and didactic ideas. Through learning about how others do things we become better teachers ourselves. In the long term this German-Spanish project might contribute to even more projects and contact between teachers in our countries, and more mutual learning in different fields of education.
