BE Citizen BE Green!
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

“BE Citizen BE Green” connects two interdependent aspects that must be encountered in the educational training of each individual: the active citizenship involvement and the participation in environmental protection by selective recycling. The innovative aspect of our project lies in the fact that we believe that protecting the environment through the selective waste collection is an issue closely related to active citizenship. Our youth exchange responds to the acute need of the EU countries to involve young people in society and increase the rate of waste collection by at least 30% by 2020. Through an informal framework the participants of this project will understand, acquire and develop skills, abilities and positive attitudes for an active engagement in society and protecting the environment through the selective collection of waste for recycling. Our goal is to organize a youth exchange between 5 – 14 June 2014 in Costineşti (Romania) in order to promote the connection between active citizenship and the environmental protection through selective collection systems and waste reuse. The youth exchange will bring together 45 young people from 6 countries, for 10 days. Our specific objectives are: Preparation: - informing participants about the necessary details for the intercultural development activities; - informing stakeholders and the media about the project; - solving logistical and organisational aspects. Implementation: - the exchange of knowledge, ideas, skills on the relationship between active citizenship and selective waste collection; - strategy implementation on the visibility and dissemination of results among the local population, tourists and small entrepreneurs. Follow-up: certification of skills acquired / consolidated by the participants and their involvement in the dissemination of the results. The number and profile of participants: This exchange includes 36 young participants, aged between 18 - 30 years, from the following countries: Romania, Italy, Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary and Slovakia. Most participants will have between 18 and 22 years and half of them (18) are young people with fewer opportunities from the rural area, facing geographical difficulties. The selection of participants seeks for an optimal balance between gender, considering the principle of nondiscrimination. Alongside the participants there also will be nine group leaders with the primary role of facilitating the exchange and ensure a structured dialogue. Description of work: The implementation of activities will take place between 5 to 14 June 2015, in the youth resort Costineşti (at the Black Sea coast of Romania). This location facilitates the dissemination of the results at the national level among the target group of young people aged between 18 - 25 years. Methodology: For accomplishing the activities we will make use of non-formal education methods such as: energises; role play; questionnaire; anonymous method for non-formal evaluation; learning by doing (experimental method); reflecting session; individual learning; active participation in a group; public presentations. Results and impact: This exchange will contribute to the personal development of participants as they will start being aware of the connection between active citizenship and selective waste collection. Participants will design and create selective waste collection containers and will interact with tourists, locals and small entrepreneurs in order to promote the importance of this aspect and inform them about Erasmus+ and the project they are part of. Long-term beneficial results: In the long term this exchange will create positive effects both at local communities and among the participants, as well at national and European level, by contributing to the development of active citizenship. At the same time, this exchange contributes to the objectives of Erasmus+. The project aim is to contribute at persuading young participants to actively participate in the collective waste selection process. Thus, our participants contribute to the environmental objectives of the selective waste collection set up for 2020.
