Be advanced / progressive - Be in culture
Start date: Feb 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Recognizing that it is important for the young people in today's multicultural society to understand and strengthen their "root sense" anchored in culture and its manifestations, as well as while searching the modern solutions for animation of traditions in youth and the common European cultural identity, the Carnikava County Council, in collaboration with local young people, is developing the youth exchange project "Be advanced / progressive - Be in culture", under which 32 young people from four Member States, aged 18 to 25 years, would exchange the experiences of cultural traditions and jointly organize a summer solstice celebration, to reveal the common and the individual features in different cultures. In the result of the project, informative material is to be created – the Summer solstice celebration guide for young people, explaining and showing the main festive traditions and features, including practical suggestions for carrying out preparatory work. The project aims to involve the young people, who usually do not attend activities related to the ancient tradition, in the traditional cultural practice, showing also that the ancient cultural heritage can be understood and acquired in a modern way. Involving the young people in the exploration of ancient 'cultural roots ", the basis for development of a balanced and tolerant cultural space in districts, regions and wider European Union context is created.
