Avasta, hooli, tegutse!
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Oct 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

EVS project „Avasta, hooli, tegutse!” ('discover, take care and take actions') brought into Lille Maja youth centre a 27 year old Romanian Cătălina Georgiana Ciubăr. Lille Maja is a small youth centre in Tartu, a university town of 100 000 citizens. Lille Maja's open youth room is open Monday-Friday at 1pm – 7pm. The visitors of the youth room are mostly 7-12 year old kids. Lille Maja arranges activities also for 13-18 year old youth. Grown up young people participate in Lille Maja's activities mainly as volunteers. Cătălina helped to arrange activities (cooking club, design club, handicraft club, creativity club) in the open youth room 15.09.2014-31.08.2015. Once a week she arranged in co-operation with the other workers Geography club, which aim was to introduce different countries and cultures (she prepared questionnaires, animé films, atlas, games of the countries etc.). She helped to arrange meetings of the volunteers and Lille Maja's other events, such as Tartu School Theatre Festival and Childrens Day in Tartu. Despite of the language barrier Cătălina made contacts with kids and youth very smoothly. She had chat with them and played games with them, she prepared for them a lot of creative activities and events (for example shooting of short movies, compiling of books, memory games, treasure hunts, talent shows, karaoke CD-s, secret messages etc. etc.) Cătălina helped to arrange city camps, parties and activities during vacations. One of her biggest projects was a 2-week-long city camp in summer on the theme of career. Also she initiated and prepared a Flash Mob during Tartu Student Days and for grown up young people she arranged language exchange and coachsurfing meetings. For two months Cătălina was on medical leave. For about nine months she helped in Lille Maja. During this time she managed to do really a lot. And she had a lot of ideas for more. She inspired the kids, teenagers and young grown-ups as well as Lille Maja's workers. Cătălina was very open person and she shared her opinion. Through communication with her kids and teenagers learned English, Romanian temperament and culture; they participated in a lot of creative activities and became more brave and open. During her EVS Cătălina worked with different target groups, she got more experience of project leading and working with kids and teenagers. She had possibility to apply her creativity. Based on the target group she learned to plan, advertise and give feedback. Cătălina made new friends, got to know Estonia, its culture and the Estonians. At first sight very small, cold and distant country gave her opportunity to learn more about herself and develop her inner abilities. Lille Maja gains from coordinating and hosting of the EVS the tool to motivate the young to initiate activites themselves and also EVS brings Europe more closer to Tartu's kids and teenagers and young adults. EVS projects create a ground for contacts on the personal level and increase tolerance.
