There are several reasons why our school wants to participate in an international project. The new National Core Curriculum has just been completed and is put into practice from autumn 2016. The new curriculum requires a new educational culture meaning action-based and phenomenon based learning, internationalization and increased pupils´ participation in the entire learning process. Furthermore our city Espoo emphasizes knowledge of information and communication technology in its´own municipality specific curriculum.Our participation in the "Space Awareness" course 10.7.-15.7. 2016 in Marathon, Greece will help us reach our goals in phenomenon based learning in our school. In order to succeed, our "Earth and Space" project requires a motivated and enthusiastic team willing to plan and organize this project for different grades in our school. Our team consists of teachers working in different grades and having diverse working history, skills and knowledge in order to make an effective and well-functioning team that reflects the diversity of our school. Attending a common course gives our project a strong base and binds together the chosen team. There are six teachers whose strengths are professionally in different fields (natural science and mathematics, phenomenon based learning, special education, primary education, English, internationality, information and communication technology and management team). From this course "Space awareness" we will learn how to make our pupils aware of the themes of space and also how to maintain an interest in scientific thinking throughout their school path. On the whole the joy of learning and motivation grows. We also hope to learn new strategies for how to use technology with different kinds of learners. To share all the experiences, ideas, possible problems, and successes we hope to network with our European colleagues. This would be a good start for a new kind of internationalization at our school. After sharing our experiences we believe, that also other teachers become inspired to get new pedagogical and didactic experiences and thereby get motivated to develop their professional skills.The benefits of "Earth and Space" project to Meritori school: This project enables us to put into practice a multidisciplinary learning course. Pupils´ motivation and competence are enriched with diverse learning environments. It provides many items of interest for pupils of all ages and all kind of learners with different strengths in learning. And as the process itself is important, also nonformal and informal learning have considerable importance. "Earth and Space" as a phenomenon is very appropriate for our school since our school emphasizes natural science and mathematics. Most pupils have general knowledge of earth and space and they also know sources of information as well as how space can be explored. Therefore "Earth and Space" is in our opinion a good subject for a phenomenon based project. It provides a wide range of different possibilities.
