Autonomie et compétences, un plus pour le parcours des jeunes.
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The LEAP Technical High School organizes work placements in Malta for Social Care and Sales students for the fourth school year. This year, a group of 53 students will leave between 2 and 4 weeks and work in retirement homes or nurseries (Social care Students), and in supermarkets (Sales students) of the Island in August/October 2016. In order to improve the lingual and cultural immersion, they will be accommodated in host families. After several years of language trips to Malta, this project of work-placement abroad was an evidence. As the first experiences was a success, we were strengthened in this perspective. As we visited our future partners – Linguatime School of English and Mobility Malta International Ltd allowed us to settle down this project in a proper manner. We established strong links with those partners. The foreign partners are very implicated in the project such as contacts beforehand with the chamber of Commerce that receives the student's application on line, put them in contact with the companies, and with Linguatime which is in charge of the families. When they receive the name and address of the families, they will write emails to introduce themselves. The students are in their third school year when they start the internship abroad. They have already had 2 years' sale work experiences in France. As those students are not keen on moving for work most of the time and know very little about EU and culture, this internship abroad will help them pursue studies because they must be qualified to occupy skilled jobs. The objectives are to obtain different technical knowledge and new sale methods to develop their reactivity, flexibility and adaptation, to stimulate them to leave their home-town, to be more confident, to be orientated to go to college. We would like this experience abroad help them get involved into a European project so they will be more invested in learning English and at last this will develop their culture and knowledge about the E.U and European minded. From a general point of view, the objectives are to add value to the school training and at the same time to guide properly the students for their future. It is essential they integrate the National Curriculum namely 6 years after GCSE. So it is indispensable to stimulate them to pursue studies even in a professional field and the school must be identified as a European partner. Teachers' aim will be to evaluate students concerning their skills and only their knowledge, be open towards the EU, learn Maltese work methods. During classes, they practice real situations such as browse the web to find the best rate for a flight to Malta or check the place where they will live for a month. This project expands a team spirit, give incentive to the students to learn English and help students widen their work perspectives. For tutors in Malta, they will exchange professional methods, know-how, open their shop to Europe, integrate young people in the staff who will transfer a European culture. This will help to transfer rigour about European standards, train students to apply requirements and specifications for the companies. At last, the objectives for the intermediary organizations will create a network of partners in France as they welcome French students and help Malta to be more well-known in the EU. In a nutshell, we would like that our students don't hesitate to travel to find a job or to continue their studies thanks to their experience abroad which gave them confidence, stepping back from their relatives, broadening their mind....... To conclude, the LEAP Technical High School would like that this third European project will open new opportunities to future students towards other countries in Europe.
