We are a combination of schools located at Heckental in the administrative district Heidenheim in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. Our association consists of two preparatory schools and two secondary schools.On the one hand we admit children and teenagers coming from European countries in our schools whose parents are currently searching for work here in Germany (e.g. from Slowenia). On the other hand we have many children and teenagers coming from war zones such as Syria or Iraq.We teach them the German language and at the same time we make them familiar with the German culture. The teachings take place in our so called ’Vorbereitungsklassen’ (VKL), which are special classes where mainly the German language is taught.The other focus at our school are teens and refugees from conflict areas, coming along the Balkan route from Turkey to Germany. Those children and teenagers become part of the cultural variety of the classes and often build groups. It is very important for us to make the students aware of the cultural pluralism at our schools so that they become familiar with this situation.We want to promote social solidarity and togetherness in order to make integration possible. In doing that we try to prevent conflicts and preserve the peaceful atmosphere at our schools. Without doubt it's necessary to have extended knowledge on the handling with the refugees at the entry point to Europe, Turkey.Altogether ten teachers will go to Slovenia for one week and to Turkey for another week. The teachers that were chosen are people which work mainly with foreign children. Moreover, there are teachers with special education, who promote the method of social studying.The participants will be guests at different schools in order to get an broad overview of the situation. They will gather information of teachers and directors of various schools. Meetings for preparation where the participants can discuss expectations and benefits of the whole project will be hold previously.After the project is done the participants report back their experience and conclusion on the project to the college at the conference. A meeting with other schools with a multicultural background out of Heidenheim is planned in order to transfer the experience and received knowledge. We will integrate the results at our school to create a new concept. Moreover, the experience and conclusion shall become part of class and daily school and influence the collaboration with parents.
