Auslandspraktika der Berufsfachschüler zum Staatl. geprüften Assistenten für das Hotelmanagement
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project supports an internship abroad for young german students, which are attending the course “Accredited Assistant for Hotelmanagement”. The apprenticeship prepares participants to work as assistants for the middle management in the hospitality industry. Besides consolidated business expertise, industry knowledge and foreign language skills these tasks require as well distinctive intercultural skills and personal competences of the employees. To reach those qualifications, the “Assistants for Hotelmanagement” will complete two internships within their 3rd year of training with a minimum length of five month, out of which one must be completed in a non-German-speaking country. The practical objectives of the internships are: - Improve the studied language skills in colloquial and business contexts. - Learn and understand specific operational procedures in different departments in a hospitality related company - Acquire professional communication skills whilst dealing with guests, clients, business partners and colleagues. - Get to know customs and specifications of the foreign country whilst being exposed to a real life working environment The main objectives to achieve are: - Increase the employability of graduates - Development of highly qualified employees for the hospitality industry in Saxony, Germany and the EU. 10 students have applied to take part in the project. The professional training will mainly take place in the Front Office department, the F&B Service as well as the marketing department. The application process is generated by the participants but supported at all time through the SRH Hotel-Akademie Dresden. Provided are internship reports from former students staying abroad, a data base with more than 300 hotels in Europe, notifications about contact persons and open vacancies at our partner hotels, preparation of internship contracts, presentations and information about different destinations and insurances. During the whole internship period a contact person on both sides (school and hotel partner) is available at any time to help whenever needed. A regular exchange via E-Mail, telephone or during personal visits to students helps to monitor the achievements as well as the successful completion of the internship abroad. We expect that participants will have a competitive advantage on the labour market due to the international experience they can proof in comparison to other applicants. Furthermore they do have a greater labour market to choose from since they can be employed in Germany as well as other European countries due to their advanced language skills. From previous projects we can confirm, that participants return with a great amount of self-confidence as well as a highly qualified employees which usually have little trouble finding suitable positions within the labour market. The employability for recent participants has been in most cases been increased.
