Ausbau des Europa-Profils sowie Stärkung der interkulturellen und fremdsprachlichen Kompetenzen
Start date: Jun 20, 2016, End date: Aug 19, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "Strengthening of the European profile as well as improving the intercultural and linguistic competences", which the Burg-Gymnasium Bad Bentheim intends to carry out in the period between June 2016 - August 2017, aims at developing our school - located in the rural "Euregio" region - to a tolerant, European-minded educational institution with the capacity to cope with the challenges of a growing multicultural society, as represented in our school. The most effective way to secure best results is to train participants from different levels (regular teachers, heads of departments, members of the school management) with an interdisciplinary approach, combining political science, history, religion and English. Thus, the courses tackle topics such as teaching Europe (European institutions and functions), active citizenship, working with diversity, social inclusion of immigrant children, strengthening the linguistic competences in English, intercultural education through religious studies. All courses aim at increasing the motivation of the participants and enhancing the knowledge related to the subjects and improving the social and communicative competences. The Burg-Gymnasium intends to gain the status of a "European school" in the long run. The establishment of a working team "Europe", eTwinning-projects that are scheduled for this school year, an interdisciplinary course for older students focussing on European issues and language in the next school year, the development of a European curriculum, a health day focussing on psycho-social aspects, the development of project days related to our topics, the extensive documentary of the project results via press, school website, yearbook - all these aspects are intended to inform the public about the growing cultural awareness of the Burg-Gymnasium as a European school. In our daily work we will focus on educating our students to become responsible, active European citizens. In the long run the planned project aims at creating a cultural awareness of all the people working and learning at our school, fostering the cross-cultural dialogue and evoking an open-minded attitude, which enables our school to build up more European exchange programmes so that we may all live in a peaceful Europe.
