Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

On the road to a European education and work environment: Facilitation of student and teacher competences (intercultural awareness) in the vocational education to improve the employability via job shadowing and internships in Germany, Spain and Ireland.Ostholstein (Eutin) as well as the Balearic area in Spain and Donogal in Ireland are similar rural regions, whose economy mainly depends on tourism and agriculture. The deficiency of skilled workers effects tourism noticeably. This can be countered via increased Europeanization of the labour market in terms of a growing vocational mobility. Two components are needed to achieve this. First: a good vocational education whereas the German dual system has been leading the way in Europe for many years. Secondly an intercultural competence which does not only consist of foreign language skills but rather is a sensitivity towards a united Europe which can be promoted through staying abroad especially through internships. The partners of the project EuBiR-JoPra 2016 on the Spanish side consists of 85 schools under the administration of the Ministry for Education of the Balearic Islands and on the German side the vocational school in Eutin, county of Ostholstein. Furthermore do we have the newcomer Ireland joining this project, who do not have much experience in Erasmus + projects, but hope to increase their intercultural competences through jobshadowings and with the support and experiences of the two other project partners. They want to support and extend the professional mobility and intercultural competence of their participants via stay abroad internships for apprentices and jobshadowing of the educational staff, especially vocational teachers. The completion of the teachers and the apprentices stay abroad are set to be realized with one visit per year for each project partner lasting a total of two years (internships: total of 30 participants + 12 mentors and 8 jobshadowing). In preparation for this project participants will have to join informational events and subject-specific classes. The results will be documented and evaluated subsequent to the practical phase via evaluation forms, experience and internship reports and as a presentation in the form of a module during our own school’s European day. As a short term consequence the project partners hope to improve the professional, social and personal competences of the participants and thus a strengthening of the region through educated and skilled workers. We are anticipating improved professional mobility and intercultural competence. The usage of European instruments and certificates (Europass) is expected to enhance the European and national acceptance of the achievements. The exchange of experiences among the participants leads to a growth of the project management competence as well as to a further creation of a professional network in the vocational education between Germany and Spain. Thus our long term goal is to raise the employability of apprentices and teachers.
