The "Evangelischen Freiwilligendienste Diakonie Hessen" (the former "Zentrum für Freiwilligen-, Friedens- und Zivildienst") started in 2001 with EVS projects. This project is funded in the field of work to help physically and mentally challenged people. The three pillars of the project integrate various daily activities, like assisting in schools or planning an activity in a place for adult mentally and physically challenged people where they can stay over the day. Topics of discussion during the voluntary year are the socially relevant topics of integration versus inclusion. The volunteers are supposed to explore social conditions of their homeland and their "receiving" land regarding the contact with physically and mentally challenged people. Reflecting on their personal opinions of social help and discussing how much involvement is necessary for self purposeful life to have meaning. The three pillars of the project are located at the following places: Kassel, Hofgeismar and Schwalmstadt. The participants are interested in the work field of physically and mentally challenged people. The participants will receive the necessary amount of support in their work and off-work activities. The participants will be lectured in an educational programm at the national agency, furthermore they will also have the oppurtinity to discuss the different pillars of the project with other participants. At the end of the year the volunteers will have an in depth varied view of working with physically and mentally challenged people and will be able to use this for their future careers.
