ASILESP (Employment Training) Project

The ASILESP project will focus upon the production of a marketable, computer-based software product, for use particularly by persons with autism, to enable the target group to better develop their skills in order to thus increase the take-up of available job opportunities. The software (CD-Rom & internet based) will demonstrate the workplace environment to the user and teach basic skills (office & manufacturing) in a way that is personal both to individual circumstances and to the proposed or existing workplace. This approach will address the need of persons with autism in being presented with familiar objects and environments for successful learning to be achieved. The project will provide a continuing vocational training programme that will enhance the workplace-learning arena for those with a disability and will open up opportunities for training not previously available. The results of the project are planned for dissemination through web-based shareware and through the production of a specialist CD-Rom. Use will be made of existing partner networks (particularly as the current partner 'Autism Europe' is represented across 64 countries in the world) and via acknowledged links with the World Autistic Association.
