Arts and Culture over the Borderlines
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

”Arts and Culture over the Borderlines” is an EVS project that brought together young people to work and learn through arts. Main themes for the project were creativity, arts, solidarity and tolerance. The project included three volunteers, Franziska, Conrad and Nele from Germany. From September 2014 to June 2015 – for 10 months - they lived and worked in Varsinais-Suomen Kansanopisto in Paimio. (Nele left her project January 2015) Volunteers took part in various aspects of the life in folk high school: they assisted in the music lessons, helped to organise concerts and events and organised theme days about their own countries for the students. In addition to working in the folk high school, volunteers took part in life all around Paimio: they visited the language classes in local high school and kansalaisopisto to discuss with the students and to give information on EVS. Near the end of the project volunteers organised choir exchange for german students here in Paimio and in Helsinki and helped in Jukola, which is very big orienteering competion in Finland with total 30000 participants.Franziska and Conrad also worked as assistant instructors in kids theatre summerdaycamp at Opisto. The project involved the young volunteers, the students of Varsinais-Suomen Kansanopisto and other young people in Paimio. It brought together young people from different countries and backgrounds. The volunteers truly became part of the local community, which helped to foster mutual understanding and created possibilities for learning and doing things together.”
