artnership for Implementing Sustainable Solutions - Joint Handling and Protecting of the Cross-Border Environment (P.I.S.S.)
Start date: Mar 31, 2012, End date: Jun 29, 2013 PROJECT  FINISHED

Each year, Moftin and Csengerujfalu face significant floods because of the oversized, sometimes extreme, quantities of rainwater. The intense urbanization of the neighbour cities (Carei, Satu-Mare, Csenger) is influencing Moftin and Csengerujfalu, and results in the loss of native soil conditions as a result of soil compaction and the creation of impervious surfaces, which disrupts the hydrologic cycle. Implementing the project helps the partners to provide great benefit to environment, human health, sanitation, fish/wildlife habitat, recreational resources, and drinking water. The general objective of the project is enhancing the RO and HU local authorities' performances for solving cross-border infrastructure problems, with respect to the EU's environment norms. Some of direct beneficiaries belong to Moftin and to Csengerújfalu public local administration (21 employees in Moftin Town Hall and 4 in the Local Self-government of Csengerújfalu). The other direct beneficiary is the population of the two partner communities who benefit directly in the future from the investment in rain-water infrastructure: 917 inhabitants in Csengerújfalu and 1219 in Moftinu Mic, 960 in Moftinu Mare and 1093 in Domanesti, meaning a total of 4189 inhabitants, the existent economical agents / potential ones; the social cultural institutions in these areas. The experts who participate at the cross-border meetings (aprox. 20 experts) disseminate information and exchange data and cross-border know-how about rain-water management. The main specific activities of the project are elaboration of the technical plans and studies, organizing cross-border meetings and public debates.Among project results: 2 technical documents prepared, 17 bilateral meetings of partners, 2 public debates.
