Artists in Creative Education (ACE): Developing a European training model
Start date: May 1, 2010,

Artists in Creative Education (ACE): Developing a European training model This programme will develop a European model for training artists to work with children and young people in schools. It pools the knowledge and practical experience of four cultural organisations drawn from across the European Union, all of whom have experience preparing and placing artists in projects with children. Children gain real, tangible benefits from working with artists on creative and cultural projects, both for their personal development and educational attainment. This programme supports this process through facilitating artists to work in schools across Europe, and then using these experiences to develop a model for how artists can be trained to work in education. The programme will focus on preparing artists to work in primary schools serving deprived and disadvantaged communities, and European countries where the institutional infrastructure to deliver such programmes is less developed. The programme involves: * The establishment of a 'core curriculum', or model, for training artists to work in education, with a particular focus on the skills and understanding necessary to work in schools in disadvantaged areas * Creative exchanges between artists from different countries, including South Eastern European ones, where they work together and experience the differences between each countries approachThe programme will result in: * Greater awareness of the impact of creative approaches to education on young people from marginalised communities among policy makers, arts/creative practitioners and organisations, and schools * The opening up of new markets by facilitating a trans-european approach to artists working in education. Artists will develop skills that they can apply across Europe * The close working between partner organisations, artists and the children and young people involved will result in greater European cooperation.
