ART for START seminar on inclusion of refugees, minorities and marginalized groups
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Feb 28, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

"ART for START" is an international seminar on best practices of using artistic techniques and tools for inclusion of people from ethnical minorities, deprived categories and with disabilities. It will empower youth workers and youth leaders through sharing tools and practices of inclusion of people from socially marginalized groups. The seminar will take place in Bitola (Macedonia) in October 2016 and will be a space for sharing experience between 23 participants from 9 countries: Portugal, Ukraine, Romania, Poland, Macedonia, France, Italy, Georgia, and Turkey. The emphasis is made on the creative arts methods which the participants of the seminar will share with each other. We invite organizations who work with above-mentioned categories using various art tools to integrate them into society. Sharing their practices and experiences, working on different approaches of involving youth, the participants of the project will contribute to the development of their communities by creating social cohesion in the societies, teaching youth new skills and encouraging them to active participation. The idea of the project came up in responce to the emerging need for NGOs in Europe to learn how to help their communities to effectively integrate new social categories which appeared recently, including refugees, internally displaced people and other marginalized groups. A number of organizations already successfully work on the theme of inclusion, and the most popular and effective approach is through using various artistic techniques because art is a notion that exists beyond nations, ages, languages, social, political or religious background. It appeals to the essence of humanity and serves as a unifying factor and social glue. The participants are expected to even more realize the need of integration of socially marginalized groups and acquire more effective tools for it. Also they are supposed to learn how to better explain to their comminities the need of inegration and oppenness towards these marginalized groups. The project suggests a strong multiplying effect because it involves youth leaders from different countries who are interested to make difference.
