Aprendiendo en Europa: Hacia un colegio más Internacional
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

a) Context of the project: The 2012-2015 Strategic Plan of the school included as a strategic objective 2.1 "Strengthening the competences of the people"; this project, therefore, is part of the activities planned to achieve this objective. It aimed to improve the knowledge of the participants in teaching foreign languages through the use of new technologies and methodologies as well as update their oral skills. After finalising the project we can say that the benchmarking activities carried out in countries that are distinguished for their high scores on international tests (Finland/Estonia) and reference schools in implementing new methodologies, materials or teaching tools based on multiple intelligences have also contributed to the achievement of the objective 2.1 as well as the Objective 4.3 "Improve the competences of the students”. b) Number and profile of participants: The school has created an Internationalization Committee that among other functions, has made a diagnose of staff training needs, taking into account the objective of consolidating the PAI and CLIL programme as well as the implementation of new technological tools that complement the new methodologies and the consolidation of the internationalization process. To select the participants, the Internationalization Committee, that has acted as the Selection Committee, with the supervision of the General Director, has developed a selection protocol. This protocol had well-defined selection criteria and objectives. Among the candidates, 5 teachers were selected from all the educational levels of the school and members of the management team to participate in the project and they went to three different structured courses. All the participants met the minimum requirements; they certify a B2 level in English and have a teaching experience of at least four years, are aged between 25 and 50 years and accumulate teaching merits. c) Activities description: -1 participant to consolidate the Internationalization process of the school. Course "How to make your school more international" (Portugal) - 2 participants for training teachers in new methodologies for language teaching. In addition, we aimed to update the linguistic competence of teachers. Course "Tap-Swipe-Pinch into English. Learning English with tablets. (UK) - 2 participants to learn about different, new methodological approaches. (observe good practices) Course "Best Practices Benchmarking" (Finland/Estonia) d) Results and expected impact: As major impacts, the school has more qualified teachers benefiting their professional development. Indirectly, students have benefited from the learning received by the teachers, and at the light of the latest satisfaction survey their families feel more involved and satisfied in the International projects promoted by the school. Also, the school has teachers trained in new methodologies and thanks to the project teachers also have access to new tools and teaching methods through the benchmark with leading schools in standardized tests. The teachers who have not participated directly in the project have also benefited from the project through the organization of good practice sessions. These impacts have been measured through external and internal indicators as well as through the validation of participants in Europass and the training and innovation credits given by the Education Department. The Navarre society has also benefited from the project through more competent teachers and students better formed in languages. In the long term, the school has advanced in the consolidation of its strategic alliances with other European schools to improve the competences of all its students. The school has also lead European projects and helped other schools who wanted to start the journey towards internationalization. The school is becoming a pioneer school in Navarre regarding internationalization and dissemination of good teaching practices. The dissemination and information activities of the acquired learnings that have been carried out are: the creation of a specific website for the project (www.aprendiendoeneuropa.jimdo.com), articles on the school website and blog, dissemination on social networks (twitter and facebook), press releases in local media, information on the online newsletter of the Department of Education (Government of Navarre), transmission of experiences through Open days, the eTwinning platform and etwinning blog of Navarre, and participation in a Conference on Educational Experiences of the Department of Education.
