Από την Ανατολή στη Δύση και από το Βορά στο Νότο: η θάλασσα στους μύθους, τα τραγούδια, τη λογοτεχνία και τον πολιτισμό των λαών της Ευρώπης
Start date: Jun 30, 2014, End date: Jun 29, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The school aims to develop the humanitarian dimension of education. As one of the selected schools that implement pilot programs of studies for the last three years, it supports the use of active teaching methods, the development of students' ability of expression and creation, the European orientation and extroversion. The plan that is presented here focuses on these ideas. Objectives of the plan are: The development of European consciousness through acquaintance with important spiritual creations of European culture. The improvement of the quality of the educational work and the implementation of new educational methods. The growth of the students creativity and expressive means. The expansion of the digital and critic literacy. The exploration of the possibility to start partnerships with other European schools. The Improvment of language ability. The participating teachers are two philologists, permanent teachers of our school. They implement programs and actions by groups of pupils. The first teacher has been trained in the second level of the use of ICTs as an educational tool and she uses them in her lessons. The second one is a postgraduate student at Democritus University (subject: new teaching methods in multicultural environments). They both have certified fluency in the use of English language. Their goal is to enhance their European experience and knowledge and to enrich their teaching methods. The activities planed within the framework of the project are related to: The development of European awareness of the students and their aesthetic cultivation. This will be achieved through their acquaintance with important literary works from the European tradition and, also, with the history and the culture of other "maritime" European countries. We aim to a comparative study of European texts with the Greek literature in order to detect relationships, common issues and, possibly, influences and interactions. The teaching method of the relevant courses ( ancient and modern Greek language and Literature) will be: project and work in groups. Students will study printed and on-line sources and create, with the guidance of their teachers, a blog in which they will publish the results of their work and exchange their views. The topics to be explored will be associated with the pattern of the sea and its heroes, famous or not, in the European literary tradition. There will be an interdisciplinary approach to the subject from a historical, literary and artistic point. Students' work will be uploaded and presented to the school website and there will be a presentation of the program in the school community at the end of the school year. Furthermore goal is to create a virtual book on European cultural heritage jointly produced by teachers all over Europe. The participants will have coordinator rights in using this software for their educational work. The results are expected to be multiple. With the renewal of teaching methods, all the related courses will become more attractive and interesting for the students, who will have the opportunity to participate more actively, be expressed in a variety of ways and collaborate creatively. Students will develop their aesthetic cultivation, critical thinking, will witness important elements of European culture and connect with their own elements. They will eliminate the introspection that sometimes characterizes the Greek education and develop their European identity as well as their national one. They will understand that cultures are in an ongoing fruitful dialogue and interaction, thus dispelling stereotypes and perceptions on the superiority of one culture over another. They will also familiarize themselves with Internet instruments, digital tools, and develop digital literacy. The impact will be significant for the entire school community, for students' families and even more broadly, since their work will be published, accessible for anyone interested. The benefits will be long-termed for students that will experience permanent changes in their mentalities and attitudes and will deepen their cultivation. As for the teachers, their European experience will be beneficial for their future students too. They can also benefit their colleagues who wish to learn more about their experiences. The on-line material will also remain available to anyone interested in the future.
