Answers to the Carbon Economy (ACE)
Start date: Jul 31, 2009, End date: Jun 29, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

The ACE project responds to current environmental issues and the growing awareness regarding the need to develop a more sustainable economic growth model for businesses, including mitigation and adaptation to climate change, following three key objectives:- Achieve reductions against CO2 targets- Diversify the traditional structure of the economy - Be resilient to climate and economic changeThe ACE project will enable partners to share their knowledge and find solutions based on three target groups: individual businesses, business to business (B2B) relationships and Business Parks. These new technical solutions will be within legal, financial and operational frameworks, as well as the "culture" of business relationships. The ACE project does not only focus on attracting businesses in the clean technology and renewable energy sectors but also on supporting existing businesses to make the transition to the low carbon economy. As a lot of businesses in the 2 Seas area are SMEs and micro businesses, they will hugely benefit from this support to integrate low carbon principles in to their facilities management, processes and daily work. Expected Results: What are the key results of the project?1 - INDIVIDUAL BUSINESS:- Refurbishment of an industrial building and a low-carbon building on a new “green” business park- Delivery of a 'selling conditions' document, “rational energy use” and CO2 benchmarks- A sustainable business centre planning report and green energy technologies assessments- 15 studies produced, technical reports, assessments and business cases and six other public facing documents2 - BUSINESS - TO - BUSINESS:- Technical, economic and legal framework studies for deployment of industrial ecology3 - BUSINESS PARKS:- Contribution to ACE-manual- Economic, operational and legal business plan for collective renewable energy generation- Business park management, energy management, setting up carbon neutrality information & monitoring- Carbon footprint scans- Green selling/renting/leasing conditions- State-of-the-art case study where carbon neutral principles are included in park design- Feasibility study for Industrial Ecology Resource CentreAre all partners and territories benefitting from the results?Target groups:These include businesses, developers and managements of business parks, knowledge/research centres and public authorities who are involved in creating sustainable business parks. Also, all innovative minds - ACE wants to bring together people with refreshing views on sustainable business parks, not just for the 2020 goals, but for climate neutralityBeneficiaries:The primary beneficiaries are the businesses who occupy low carbon buildings and business parks.Benefits for territory:Greater energy and increased resource efficiency, lower carbon impact, sustainability and industrial ecology relating to individual businesses, business communities and business parks.
