Project Background / profile of participantsWe are both teachers who learnt our English at school and have not had much opportunity to use or learn the language since. These language skills are required more and more in the future in a school which teaches English as a foreign language. Already, many of our students grow up bilingual, some with English as their mother tongue. It is difficult for us with our school English to teach the language. We also have two transition classes at our school. these children come from various countries around the world, and English is the only language which are they able to communicate in the first few weeks with us. A teacher who understands it makes them feel safe and provides support in a new and alien environment for them. As their parents do not speak German they are also reliant on communicating with us in English when discussing their children.Project ObjectivesIn order to improve our English, we both want to participate in the "Annual Immersion Courses in Edinburgh for Primary School Teachers of English." We want to have the chance to improve the quality of our knowledge of foreign languages and be corrected and improves by native speakers. By improving our English we will be able to communicate better with children and parents who do not speak German and be able to offer them a more secure environment. We would also like to learn new skills in teaching English as a foreign language to improve the learning experience for our pupils. Lastly we also want strengthen our own intercultural skills and exchange experiences with participants from different European countries promoting the European idee of cooperation.Description of the activityThis project is in collaboration with Europe LFEE Confluence Scotland. The course "Annual Immersion Courses in Edinburgh for Primary School Techers of English" is aimed at primary school teachers who wish to expand their language skills. We have seven days to experience the total immersion program, with emphasis on teaching English for primary school pupils.Following the daily teaching various activities take place that will give us the chance to get to know the country and its culture closer (city tour, visit to the cinema, visit the East Lothian`s Castles and the coast, visiting various museums and galleries on site).Anticipated deliverables and long-term benefitsThe newly acquired teaching methods, the subject-specific further qualification and intensify our knowledge of English can be immediately applied in the teaching of English at primary school.
