Starting with the 2015 / 2016th school year, pupils can choose whether to pass English centralized exam or IELTS exam.The main goal of the project is to ensure that pupils of Engineering High School of Riga Technical University (EHS) are prepared for the IELTS exam. Preparation for the IELTS exam is already included in the EHS English language teaching program. As the preparation courses for the IELTS exam in schools of Latvia have not so far been organized and the teachers do not have such experience, the English language teacher of the EHS needs to supplement the methodological skills for preparation of pupils for the IELTS exam. This opportunity will provide IELTS Teacher training course attendance that will help the teacher to develop and improve professional knowledge of English teaching methods.Guntis Zenfs` experience working with IELTS and TOEFL exams allows in addition to education standard already now prepare pupils for the IELTS exam. Guntis Zenfs` experience working as a teacher trainer (instructor) will be great for the work with school English teachers, as well as organizing workshops on preparing for the passing of internationally recognized IELTS English language test.The following project activities will be carried out:1. Preparation for the training course. 2. Attendance of the IELTS Teacher Training course in Manchester Central School of English. 3. Compilation, evaluation and adoption of the training results. Presentation of the training results to school management.4. Integration of the training results into the EHS English language teaching methodology, improvement of the methodology.5. Development of the methodological seminar program for English teachers on the preparatory for IELTS examination.6. Methodological Seminar for 24 English teachers from Latvian schools.7. Development of the English language teaching author's program based on the English curriculum standards and the preparatory methodology for IELTS examination.8. Project publicity on website www.izv.lv.The following results will be achieved at the end of the project: - EHS English language teacher will improve and complement the professional knowledge of the English language teaching methods; - EHS English language teaching methodology will be improved; - the English language teaching author's program based on the English curriculum standards and the preparatory methodology for IELTS examination will be developed; - the methodological seminar program for English teachers on the preparatory for IELTS examination will be developed; - the first methodological Seminar for 24 English teachers from Latvian schools will be carried out on March 2017. The project will ensure that in 2017/2018th school year pupils of EHS will have high scores in IELTS exam.Project activities and results as a whole will contribute to the awareness of improvement possibilities of the English language teaching methods in the schools of Latvia, as well as will contribute to English teachers' awareness of IELTS and the preparatory methodology for IELTS examination.In the long term we expect that pupils of other Latvian schools will choose IELTS examination facilitating the studies in the universities abroad.Planned duration of the project is 14 months from 01/07/2016 to 08/31/2017.
