Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Goals in the strategic development plan (for the period of 2014-2016) of Alytaus rajono Daugu Vlado Mirono High school became the reason for implementing the mobility project „The English Teachers Are Learning“. Improving (self)education and enhancing social competence of our high school community members are amongst our top priorities. The goals of the mobility project (lasting from 01-09-2015 to 01-09-2016) will contribute to improving the priorities mentioned above. The project‘s goals are the following: 1) improve the field of English teaching in our high school through developing teachers' personal and professional competences in foreign institutions; 2) develop our high school members‘ international communication and cooperation through encouraging the teachers and students to get to know other cultures and start partnerships with the institutions from foreign countries. The three participants of the project, all the English teachers from our high school, have been teaching over ten years. Although they work with the students of different age, their professional needs are integrated with the goals of our high school. Not only does the field of education need improvement in general, teaching English is of particular importance – teaching in the primary level requires new ideas and methods so that the students can come to the basic level being already able to understand and speak English. One of the teachers has most classes in the primary level. The teacher is willing to learn new methods to make a child speak, hear and understand English. During the course, she will have the chance to work in groups and „try on“ various methods; the participants will learn how to use puppets, integrate into teaching stories, drama, video resources and games. She will also visit the primary school where she will compare her class activities with those of her colleagues there. We have chosen the course in Malta for the other two teachers. One of them started working some months ago. So, doing the course together will help to improve both the cooperation of these two teachers and co-working within the methodology group of foreign languages in our high school. Their professional needs are similar – to make teaching of English more interesting and captivating. There will be many hands-on workshops, the participants will learn to create blogs (it is important as one teacher is going to create a blog for senior students); much attention will be paid to teaching speaking and listening, also to exploiting the Internet. Furthermore, the teachers will learn how to use effectively the interactive board and of course, because of communication with foreign colleagues, we will have the chance to implement international projetcs in the future. There will be three stages: 1. preparation before the courses; 2. main activities – the courses in the UK (The English Language Centre, Brighton) and Malta (Executive Training Institute; St Julian's) 3. dissemination of the results. Different activities will be carried out before the courses: we will provide some preparational activities to the participants – to collect the information about the receiving institutions, to prepare the presentation; we will be cooperating with the receiving organisations in management of different practical and pedagogical aspects of the project as well as in filling in the Europass Mobility Certificate. We will aso use eTwinning during and after the project and our experience will be disseminated at local, regional and national levels. We will monitor the project management and quality issues: the receiving organisation will send the Letter of Intent confirming the participants‘ registration, we will set up the learning agreements with the participants, the follow-up of educational process in our high school will be guaranteed while the teachers are doing the course. The teachers‘ professional development will be monitored mostly by the receiving institutions. The project will have a positive impact on: a) the participants, b) colleagues from foreign countries, c) our institution and others, d) our students. The participants will develop their professional and European competencies, motivation towards their work, their organisational and team-work skills will be enhanced. The project may be beneficial to the colleagues from foreign countries as our teachers will be able to inform them about Lithuania, its educational system and our high school. The project will be particularly beneficial to our institution as the acquired skills will be integrated into development of foreign language field. Sharing the results of our project will help other Lithuanian institutions to develop the field mentioned. The project will also have a significant impact on developing internationalisation of our high school. We expect continuous cooperation with different institutions from foreign countries. And, the students' motivation will be enhanced.
