Angličtina nás baví
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our project was propelled by a long term observation of students´ lack of interest in their English language studies. Our main objective is to increase their motivation. We understand that if our students are to be motivated, they need to feel confident in what they are doing, passionate about the language they study and their teacher needs to represent a role model in a sense that they are not only language specialists, but also interesting personalities with plenty of life-experience and skills. We would like to achieve our goals by giving our teachers an opportunity to improve their language and teaching skills. As to our students, we are going to introduce some projects that will enable them to improve their language skills. The projects aimed at our students are as follows:1. "English weekends" – students will be engaged in communication activities and will enjoy some typically Anglo-American traditions and holidays (e.g. Halloween).2. Optional subject “e-Twinning”. By working on EU projects, our students will have a chance to communicate with students from other countries. 3. Using the “e-Twinning” projects throughout various first grade subjects, where students will find out more about life in the other EU countries and they will use English in simple real-life situations for the very first time. Altogether five teachers and one teaching assistant from our school, including both first and second grade teachers, will take part in the Erasmus Plus Programme. All of them are certified teachers, but none of them is specialised in teaching English. The common aim of all the participants is to spark our students´ interest in English language studies and improve their communication skills. All the participating teachers believe that the project will help them to improve their proficiency in English and that they will learn about new methods and trends in ESL teaching. An added bonus will be a possibility to share professional experience with language tutors and colleagues from other EU countries, and last but not the least; informal meetings with the EU colleagues would enable them to learn about life, culture, customs and educational systems of various EU countries. The chosen mobilities will correspond to individual needs of each of the participants and will comply with the School Development Plan. We are going to focus on three key aspects – methodology of ESL teaching for young students, teaching methods for students with special needs and development of teachers´ language skills. After completing a course on teaching methods, one of the teachers will take part in structured study visit in Finland and will take part in a study stay in Italy.Execution of the project is carried out by two designated representatives, who will coordinate progress of the project in our school. The project is to take place between the summers of 2016 and 2018.The project will have a direct impact not only on the participating teachers and their students and colleagues but also on other professionals from the educational sector. Our intention is to share our teachers´ newly acquired knowledge in ESL teaching with other teachers from regional schools. The same way we currently share our experience in teaching other subjects, we would showcase English lessons and everything we have learnt in the ESL trainings abroad. In long term perspective, we believe that by successfully increasing our students´ motivation in learning a foreign language; we will improve their language skills. Students will not feel embarrassed or afraid to use the language on daily bases, they will not be afraid to make mistakes and they will subsequently discover that they have greater access to various information sources in different languages. Our aim is to show our students how important a foreign language is for their future life, how people in other countries live and how can they use this acquired knowledge in the course of their high school studies or when searching for a job in their home country as well as in the other EU countries.
