Since 2013 the successive implementation of the harmonized European building codes is taking place. This opens new chances for companies, engineering firms and young engineers as well as technicians. Simultaneously, the most important building industry worldwide is developing in China. This building industry is based on Chinese building codes. The aim is to understand the respective codes, to state compliances, similarities and differences and to question them. The analysis and comparison of the various building codes as described in the project application gives a first overview and introduction into Chinese codes and therefore into the Chinese building industry. Within the scope of this application the following project aims are pursued: 1) For vocational education and training: The European students of the different institutions (Fachschule für Technik in Trier, Riga Builders College, University of Luxemburg) and the students of the partner institution in Hong Kong (THEI) are directly involved into the analysis and comparison process through this project. The students are participating in the development, formulation and publication of the results of this highly interesting comparison. Based on the different levels of education and the different orientation of topics taught at the participating partner institutions, an interlocking and complimentary laboring is developing which is expected from the graduates in their later professional life. The project opens possibilities for the students to understand the theoretical background of the codes and to assess them under international aspects. This will be important in their future jobs. This project also grants the students an optimized preparation on future job markets through the possibility of gaining additional qualifications and competences. Therefore the participation in this project improves the chances of the students to establish themselves in the international building industry as for example site managers in China or in other leading positions in building construction. Since every 2nd new building is erected in China a knowledge of this investigation will be of great value for a participation in building projects in this part of Asia. 2) Through the project and the results of this project, future students should be motivated and prepared for a semester abroad (mobility). 3) Through multipliers (university seminaries and vocational education) students which are not directly involved in the project and other “builders” can profit from the results. 4) Not least, companies working in the field of construction (contractors, software companies etc) should be able to use the results of the project for their engagement in China. Industrial representatives and professional associations (stakeholder) are embedded in the projects in order not just to consider the educational sector but also the interests of industry. 5) Through the hybrid tendency to harmonize different institutions on different educational levels the demands of the German Science Council (Deutscher Wissenschaftsrat) for hybrid training are considered. Through multipliers about 1850 persons who are directly or indirectly involved in the project will profit from it. Over a longer period of time the intellectual outputs will be incorporated into teaching in order to permit an international orientation of the different educational institutions.
