Eesti People to People envisages Erasmus+ KA1 project "Analyse and think critically: media literacy for youth workers" for 12 youth organisations from Programme and Partners countries that aims to develop youth workers' analytical skills and media competencies. The project will consist of preparatory phase, training course, follow-up and dissemination activities. Training course will bring together 37 participants from Estonia, Malta, Sweden, The Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Greece, France, Latvia, Georgia, Ukraine and Russian Federation to study the international media and to contrast different news outlets’ coverage of the same issues and events. The training course will be implemented in Taevaskoja, Estonia between October 19-27, 2016. Participants of the project will be youth workers with and without media experience. The non-formal approach will contribute to participants' capacity building, “learning by doing," give an opportunity to improve their role in easing tensions between nation-states, to discover and understand how does media affect the perception of others and particularly refugees in their countries. One of ultimate goals of the training is to reinforce the civil society aspect of Ukraine-EU-Russia and Georgia-EU-Russia cooperation through critical thinking and media analysis. The project will shed the light on how people feel and what do they think on the other side of the conflict. Media literacy educators will also address delicate issues with refugees in EU countries, most probably painful situation for some participants and help them to understand and analyse media constructions of reality, which sometimes offer incomplete or inaccurate portrayals of the world we live in. The process will begin with awareness and analysis and culminate in reflection and engagement. Then participants will be trained to read critically and write critically in social media/forums/blogs.The specific objectives of this project are:* to give youth workers the ability to build knowledge, skills and attitude based on media literacy and critical thinking;* to instill skills to use different tools for bias measurement and evaluation;* to promote non-formal learning and cooperation in the field of youth work with EU and EU Partners countries;* to exchange best practices about media literacy that can be later transferred to various contexts of youth work;* to support the professional development of those who work in youth fields.Participants will gain an attitude to cooperate with peers and articulate the interests of the organisations at local, European and international levels. By developing media literacy skills they will be aware of the issues concerning global media and will develop personal skills to effectively raise awareness in their community and make media one of the most pressurizing tools in youth work. The project will support professional development of youth workers and quality of youth work. The media literacy approach in youth work is targeted through non-formal learning, learning by doing, educational and artistic development workshops. Participants will share knowledge, skills and national traditions, will learn basic skills in finding stereotypes, manipulations: fallacies in biased media content. Participants will discuss present situation in world media, present their organisations working in the youth field, learn about Erasmus+ Programme and Youthpass, they will meet with Estonian journalists, youth workers and youth. The main results of the project will be intangible - competences and experiences gained by participants - youth workers. Participants will learn to use media literacy techniques for a variety of purposes. The impact of this project on participants will be visible in the knowledge, skills and attitudes they will acquire and develop during the project. Participants will train media analytic skills in order to use them in daily work in youth organisations and empower youth. The project endeavors to promote exchange of experience and know-how between different organisations involved in youth work. Participants will have the throughout command of the learning materials and with their help will be able to analyse and explain the role of media in the world. The development of critical thinking skills, attitudes and values should bring about behavioral change that will enable to reduce prejudice and increase tolerance for diversity, therefore prevent conflict both overt and structural. On the organisational level this project will foster NGOs cooperation in the youth field. The project after-effect on partners' organisations will come out as established network of youth workers as well as further activities and new projects between the organisations involved.
