PROJECT
FINISHED
Our school is in the Community of Madrid, (Spain) about 50km from Madrid in the foot of the Guadarrama Mountains.
We cater for a wide range of students with diverse educative needs. For that reason, some years ago the staff decided to start a project Pervasive Developmental Disorder ( PDD), focusing on the development of these students, with a milder form of autism, with the goal of paying special attention to the needs of these students with whom we work.
The aim of this educational project is to aquire trainning in the area of the inclusion of special needs students with the goal of improving the quality of education and attention given to them.
It is centred on the Finnish model, which is considered to be one of the best examples of this type of education in the world.
The working party consists of three members with distinct areas of specialisation: Speech Therapy, Therapeutic Pedagogy, Infant and Primary education.
Our project that we had planned and hoped for needed to be changed so instead of visiting just one school we want to four. This was because the school in Kapyla could only accomadete us for one day. Thanks to various contacts that we had we were able to shadow professionals in three other centres in various parts of Finland.
We observed and analysed the finnish educational system focusing especially on the children with special needs who are integrated with ?normal? children in regular schools in both infanti and primary education.
On our return we shaved our experiences with our coworkers and we have introduced numerous changes: not only in regard to the children with special needs but also in many other aspects of educational methodology and with in our communication parents.
We have noticed an increase in the interest shown by all the teaching staff in working together as a team.
After this experience a new project has begun based on the idea that the environement educates. This has developed into the general objective for the a plan for the centre for the year 2015/2016
The most important changes in respect of the students with special needs has been an early diagnosis and the full colaboration with their parents, throughout their time at our school.
