“Ambassador for a sustainable future” is an EVS project that involves four girls coming from Russian Federation, Germany and France who will cooperate with the volunteers of the Legambiente Trani association for six months in a province of Southern Italy. The aim of this project is to spread the awareness that taking care of the environment necessarily brings in social and cultural values when spreading and sharing essential lifestyles to face environmental ongoing changes and to recognise the role of natural resources as an instrument for the mitigation and adjustment to climate changes politics. Also socially disadvantaged ranks, such as people with disability, migrants or prisoners, are involved in community activism and democratic participation through awareness-raising and informational campaigns about recycling, both in schools and public places, and through practical intervention of safeguard and environmental monitoring of green areas and urban vegetable gardens. The project allows the volunteers a both social and personal growth especially by the acquisition of specific knowledge about the organic and synergistic farming and to acquire techniques concerning the forum-theatre, the environmental communication and the active listening.Interacting with the local community, monitoring and studying environmental problems on the territory, together with the local authorities and civil protection too, this will allow the volunteers to obtain further knowledge that will make a “communicator of a sustainable future” out of them. Such global thinking is applied to local institutions and creates real chances of public participation. The green areas recovered through volunteers’ work will become natural places for the citizens in order to meet and gather for social activities, which will strengthen social relationships. The intimacy that will come after and the awareness-raising campaigns held in schools will strengthen the participation in the local governance thanks to a greater bond of the general public, seen as an essential chance to appreciate more the multicultural diversity and to manage it with success and promote social peace.
