All in one boat II
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

„All in one boat II“ is a bilateral Youth Exchange between the German organisation Stiftung “Dr. Georg Haar” and the Finish organisation „Hämeenlinnan kaupunki/ Pollentien nuorisokoti. Both organisations are working with youngsters with fewer opportunities in the child- and youth protection care. The cooperation on international youth work for youngsters with fewer opportunities between those two organisations is exciting since 2008. The idea to create a youth exchange together developed during a Contact Making Event in Weimar in 2015. From each country 10 youngster (13-18 years old) and 3 leaders will take part. From both countries will come 5 refugees and 5 German/Finish youngsters who are living in a child- and youth protection houses. The activity will take part from the 11.07.2016-20.07.2016, furthermore there will be an Advanced Planning Visit from the 03.06.2016-06.06.2016 in Weimar. The main activity will be paddling on the river Saale in Thuringa/Saxonya-Anhalt, from Orlamünde to Naumburg in Germany. The youngsters will live in tents and will plan, organize and cook the meals, with the support of a facility team. Next to going by boat, there will be several other activities to foster intercultural dialogue. Amongst other methods we will organise an intercultural game afternoon, a campfire song evening and an “Everybodies Culture” Feast. The outdoor activities will be supported by a guide from the local partner “Erlebniswelten gruppe”. One of the main aims is to overcome xenophobic and racist thinking patterns and replace it with new and positive intercultural experiences. Another aim is to give the youngsters an opportunity to grow in their personal development and to strengthen and develop new competences and soft skills like creativity, problem solving skills and communication skills. Especially the young refugees should get the experience of being a part of the European youth culture and develop through the project competences and skills to integrate in the European society. On the long term perspective the project is aiming to change the attitudes towards the “unknown” of the society. Therefore the youngsters will take the role of a multiplier in their personal social surrounding. Furthermore the development of social skills, competences and attitudes should have a positive effect on the individual future job situation of the youngsters. For the two organisations the importance of international youth work and the program Erasmus+/youth in action is supposed to grow through the project with the effect that even more children and youngsters with fewer opportunities will be reached.
