All Different - All Equal: (Re)ACT Against Discrimination
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Jan 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "All Different - All Equal: (Re)ACT Against Discrimination" gathered 26 young people from Germany and Macedonia for eight days in Berlin. They worked on the sources and reasons of discrimination and tried to find possibilities to fight them. During different workshop sessions they learnt how we perceive ourselves and others, and how stereotypes can lead to social exclusion. They elaborated background knowledge about the construction and use of social, religious and political boundaries and their results on the allday life of people. To illustrate these rather abstracte issues, we conducted a simulation game using the conflict in Northern Ireland as a proxy. The participants took over the roles of member of the Belfast city council and had to come to an common local action plan to improve the relations between the different ethnic groups. The simulation game herewith aimed at illustrating social and political processes and dynamics, to experience different interessts and to come to a commom conclusion. To enable them to exchange on their different opinions and experiences it was from utter importance to generate trustfull relations between the participants during the seminar. This project therefore had an experience-based approach to the topic of discrimination.
