Data published by Central Statistical Office (GUS) shows that in the counties where students of Zespół Szkół Ekonomicznych (Group of Economics Schools) live, the unemployment rate is twice as high as in the nearby TriCity (Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia). Considerable number of ZSE students come from small towns and villages where it will be difficult to find employment after graduation. The school’s aim to enhance the chances for employment of future graduates fits in well with the guidelines placed in Strategies of Development of Pomeranian Province 2020 (Strategia Rozwoju Województwa Pomorskiego 2020). (Operational object 2.1 High level of employment, direction of action 2.1.3 Improvement of tertiary vocational education and lifelong learning. of the methods of improving the level of the offered education is to provide students with high quality work experience. Therefore, ZSE has again prepared the project whose aim is, among other things, to organise high quality foreign work placements for the students. Project Active and competent – foreign work experience as a way to the job market aims to enrich students’ practical skills and experience, which consequently not only will improve their position at the local, regional and even European job market but also will enable them to answer the needs of employers. The project involves 36 students of ZSE learning the following professions: technician of hotel industry (18 students from 3rd grade), commerce technician (9 students from grades 2-4) and the advertising organisation technician (9 students from grades 2-4). Participation in the project will be granted to the students who successfully fulfil the recruitment process based on objective criteria linked with educational achievements, level of English and their social and financial situation. Each participant will take part in the 40-hour preparatory course including language, cultural and pedagogical workshops. The next stage of the project will be the work experience in Great Britain. ZSE’s partner will be Training Vision Ltd based in Portsmouth, Hampshire County. The following mobilities are planned: group 1 – 18 students of hotel industry class will have 4-week work experience organised as a part of the school obligatory curriculum in the spring 2017, group 2 – in August/September 2017, 18 students from grades 2-4 of commerce (9 students) and advertising organisation (9 students) classes will have extra-curricular 3-week work experience in August/September 2017. During their work experience students will have opportunity to improve their vocational competences and to learn European standards of organisation and functioning of companies. Another advantage of this work experience will be development of English language skills in the natural environment and expanding specialist vocabulary. Work experience in Portsmouth will also serve the opportunity to learn about the culture and history of this region and Great Britain because in their spare time students will take part in tourist and cultural activities. The implementation and all activities within the project will be subject to on-going monitoring by both partners. Monitoring will be conducted using various tools, such as surveys, questionnaires, individual interviews. Gathered data will be used for evaluation of the project. After the completion of the work experience, the beneficiaries will share their experience and present their newly acquired skills to the students and teachers from our school. The multimedia presentation documenting the course of work experience will be prepared and presented to local community, including the representatives of local authorities and business. Final reports will document the work experience and enable the formal assessment (grading) and they will also be used in evaluation of the curriculum. Europass Mobility document will serve as a formal confirmation of acquired skills and competences. The participants' experience of the foreign work experience will positively affect their ability to adapt to new situations, work in a team and improve their communication skills. The result of the participation in the project will be the improvement of language competence both in communication and specialist vocabulary, acquisition of new vocational skills and development of social and intercultural competences. Owing to the participation in the project the beneficiaries will establish international contacts, their motivation to lifelong learning will increase, their initiative and entrepreneurship will be stimulated. In the long term, the participation in the project may help students succeed professionally not only on the local but also national and international job market. This way, future employers gain specialists who are not only able to share their knowledge and experience but also are able to boost their own capacity as well as the capacity of the company they work for.
