Project name: ‘EU Respiration, Care Practices Training for a Sigh of Relief in Lung Cancer”. This project includes protection, diagnosis, treatment methods, nursing practices and learning equipment in this area. From nursing departments of Vocational and Technical High Schools 54 participants in total and 6 companions who are experts in their fields will participate in this project. Cancer is the second reason of death in Turkey and in the world. Lung cancer is a very common disease in our country and it is the first cancer type leading death in male patients. According to official numbers, every year 30.000 new lung cancer patients show up but the number is thought to be reaching to 50,000 patients in reality. Diagnosis of the lung cancer with early and differential diagnosis methods, true and effective nursing and treatment services in the best conditions, maximizing the life quality of the patients are the most important developments in health area in our country. In this scope, nurses, who do the follow up of the patients and who have important role in treatment process, have great responsibility. The nursing students from nursing schools and universities in our country graduate without having specific branching in their field. In the curriculum of high school nursing departments, there is not updated or innovative information for oncology nursing and about cancer and the education given is not satisfactory enough. However, oncology nursing practices in the EU member states are developed. Oncology nurses in Europe have specific trainings. Ethical approach of oncology nurses to the patients, their responsibilities and job definitions are defined according to Oncology Nursing Society (ONS). Nurses have great importance in the EU members regarding the care, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up processes in all cancer types. In this scope, the participants need to follow the diagnosis and treatment methods in lung cancer and nursing care practices, field-specific developments and to see on-spot the roles, approaches, education and equipment of oncology nurses in the EU level, and then to transfer the right and innovative methods to our country. In this scope, our biggest target is to decrease the mortality rate related with lung cancer. Purposes of the project: -Participants will learn the protection, early diagnosis, treatment and nursing practices in lung cancer in the EU, they will develop their skills by seeing new methods and practices and transfer them to our country, -To contribute to the development of oncology nursing as a branch in our country, -To provide qualified health personnel who have gained knowledge/skills/competences on the EU level, -To develop psychological approach methods in oncology treatment, -To protect the patient and their own from harmful effects of chemotherapy, -To provide them to be employed in oncology services when they graduate thanks to the theoretical and practical trainings they will have in scope of lung cancer in the EU states, -To develop their occupational and foreign language skills and communication competences, -To increase the number of qualified healthcare personnel and oncology nurses who have EU level training and also to support healthcare occupational education, -To increase innovative practices in healthcare area, -With the transfer of the trainings in EU standards about lung cancer to our country and to increase the development of the disease and to increase life quality, -With early diagnosis methods, with early period treatment of the disease, to decrease the side effects and to provide a professional healthcare service. Expected effects of the project: -To create education set (CD/DVD, brochure and leaflets) which oncology nurses and nursing students will benefit from, -To help the results of the project take place in nursing curriculum, -To provide expanded use of the knowledge, skills and experience and the product to be prepared with the cooperation of the partners. With the application of the project results in general of the country, providing the best nursing services to lung cancer patient, applying early diagnosis methods and by starting their treatment in early period, increasing mortality rate related with lung cancer are among the purposes of the project. The placement of the project is 21 days, and 3 flows, with 54 participants in total, between 03 and 23 April 2016, in the CZECH Republic, Spain and Italy. The total period pf the project is 12 months. The start date is September 2015 and ending date is September 2016.
