AGRIDIRECT Nuevas alternativas para el sector agrícola: estudio de experiencias de multifuncionalidad, cadena corta de suministro y venta directa en Toscana
Start date: Nov 1, 2014, End date: Oct 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The economic crisis in the EU had negative effects on the employment rate. Unemployment rate in the Euro zone passed from 6,4% in 2007 to 12,2% in September 2013 with even worst figures, from 8,3% to 26,6%, in some countries as Spain (Eurostat, 31 October 2013). For this reason especially EU rural areas and concretely Spanish ones, are facing a common challenge: the creation of high-quality, sustainable jobs which allow youngsters to live and work in these areas bringing social, cultural and economic richness. Although rural areas make up 93% of the territory of the EU, income per capita is a little more than the half of that in urban areas. The EC proposes to close the jobs gap in rural areas by fostering the entrepreneurial spirit and ensuring better education and skills [COM(2006) 857]. In COAG-Jaén we firmly believe that investing in a quality training covering innovative areas may contribute to the improvement of the situation previously described. To provide such training is necessary that technical and teaching staff responsible of the courses will receive a specific training directly linked to the ?in situ? knowledge of good practices. With this project we aim at providing to the participants (20 technical staff responsible of teaching and managing the vocational training courses organized by COAG-Jaén), the knowledge needed to transmit to the pupils competencies related with multifunctionality, short chain supply chain and direct selling in the olive oil and agritourism sector, taking as a model Tuscany. These competencies may provide to farmers, cooperatives? technical staff, agricultural entrepreneurs and workers linked to the agricultural sector and the rural world, a valuable tool to generate complementary incomes that will allow revitalizing the sector, and especially the olive oil production, and promote the entrepreneurial spirit of its actors We think that the more appropriate modality for our technical and teaching staff to acquire this knowledge is the direct visit that will allow ?touching with hands? the different elements, the involved actors and the political and entrepreneurial tools that allowed the development of activities related to multifunctionality, short supply chain and direct selling. The perfect destination for a visit of this kind is Tuscany, a pioneer region and actually representing the state of the art in this kind of initiatives. The project will be developed following the CEDEFOP study visits model. The profile of the visited entities will be heterogeneous in order to cover all the aspects needed to provide to the participants an effective training and a complete overview of the sector. The visits will include: - Enterprises of the agroalimentary sector which success is based on multifunctionality, short supply chain and direct selling initiatives; - Consortium and organizations involved in rural development initiatives; - Cooperatives; - Farmers associations; - Public administration at regional and local level. The objectives that we aim at reaching with this project are: - To improve the qualification of our technical staff, responsible of giving our vocational training curses, about multifunctionality, short supply chain and direct selling in olive oil and agritourism sectors, taking as a model Tuscany; -To transfer the acquired knowledge to the pupils of the vocational training courses organized by COAG-Jaén, promoting the development of the entrepreneurial spirit and the establishment of initiatives similar to the ones known during the visit; - To develop and strengthen the participant?s intercultural competences. The fulfilment of these objectives will allow to reach the following impacts: On the participants: - application to the vocational training of the knowledge acquired during the mobility; - improvement of the of the capacity to promote the entrepreneurial spirit of farmers, agricultural entrepreneurs and actors of the agricultural sector by transferring the acquired knowledge through the training courses. On COAG-Jaén: - improving of the capacity to provide viable alternatives to the actual management of farming enterprises based on concrete and successful experiences known during the mobility; - improve the international scope of the organization and opening of future collaboration in European project. - strengthening of the relationships with CIA-Toscana that will result in future collaborations. On the pupils of the courses organized by COAG-Jaén: - Transfer of the knowledge acquired by the participants to about 500 pupils per year.
