Agir en Citoyens pour notre Territoire Européen
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Jan 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

ACTE: Act as Citizens to our European TerritoryAfter having shared a common European future in 2015, with “PACE” Project, young people from Suresnes (France) and Kragujevac (Serbia) wish this year to explore the common values of citizenship in Europe.Twinned since 1967, Suresnes and Kragujevac decided to discuss their youth policy and to allow young people from both cities to build together a mutual European vision just before Serbia’s accession to European Union. They develop cooperation projects implemented by and for young people, responding to territories issues. This dual “professional – young” approach is part of a long-term sustainable process to respond to non-formal today’s young people needs. The “PACE” project has allowed, through co-financing of Erasmus +, to the young people from Suresnes and Kragujevac to wonder : “What are the keys that allow us to live well together?” by interviewing people in each territory. During the meeting in Kragujevac in July 2015, they organized a strong and symbolic action, the “Good living together Day”, involving the locals. This year, young people from Suresnes receive their peers and together they agreed to discuss on the concept of European citizenship.26 young, 14 from serbia and 12 from french, have grown up in different political, historical and cultural contexts, influencing their visions of citizenship. During a year, they will conduct researches, collect testimonies, exchange remotely from their progress. Together in Suresnes in July 2016, they will share their stories by presentations with photos and documentary films, in order to identify a common repository and understand how to build the values of tolerance, solidarity and democracy. The aim is to understand in order to act better as informed actors and promote among their peers the involvement of young people from Suresnes and Kragujevac in civic life.Accompanied by their native supervisors, they will explore their perceptions of the recent terrorist events, and guided by an outside speaker they will analyze the role of the media and social networks in the treatment of these facts. Also they will consider ways to prevent behavior of radicalization and to protect themselves against indoctrination. In a time of extreme crisis, they will think about their visions of the citizens’role in their society and in Europe. They will seek to meet vulnerable populations and they will observe them to analyse how individuals integrate and are integrated in and by the society and what is the place occupied by the minorities on each territory. Participatory and ludic workshops, meetings with marginalized populations, visits to public Institutions will allow concerned young people to break down prejudices and to develop their critical mind. They want to exchange on many current important topics and work towards a better understanding of cultural, religious, political practices in order to promote respect for others, brotherhood and friendship between peoples. They will have the opportunity to present their project at the end of the exchanges, to young people from Suresnes, and also to other nationalities during the twinning celebration, which will take place in Suresnes in July. The participants will produce a newspaper illustrated by articles and testimonials in order to share it with other young people.
