Aeronautic Industry Skills Resolution for a more efficient VET offer
Start date: Nov 1, 2013,

Due to its importance, the aeronautics industry (AI) is also recognized by high-level skilled professionals it engages. Main job positions involve engineers and maintenance technicians trained at the highest level. Although the few number of EU aerospace large companies there are several others in the value chain contributing for the success of the industry and which require high qualified workforce. In addition, it has to be considered that the AI acts globally and therefore the competition for the best workers takes place internationally. The overall performance of Aerospace education and training must be improved and a balance between initial and continuous VET has to be established (Report on the Competitiveness of the EU Aerospace Industry, Ecorys). EU needs to invest in high quality VET in order to be able to supply the AI with qualified workers. A close cooperation among VET systems from different EU countries is also desirable, as the EU AI needs to be considered as a global industry rather than a national one and Mobility of workers is undeniable. The AIRVET aims at building up an Alliance of relevant actors in the AI, bringing together bodies with AI specific expertise (UPM, SAE, UPS-IRIT and COVUNI) with VET providers (INOVA+, INNPuls, DBLUE and i3M) and bodies involved in education and training systems (ANQEP, ARCES). By bringing up together expertise and networks, the AIRVET Alliance will focus its collaboration on the improvement of the adequacy and attractiveness of VET training offer addressed to this sector. The AIRVET will focus specifically its work and collaboration on the following main aeronautic sectors: Air Traffic Management, Airlines and Airports. The project main aim is to design, develop, evaluate and disseminate adapted/new AI curricula and VET courses in the specific fields of maintenance and Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), as these areas are the ones that need a higher number of qualified personnel.
