Advanced Master Programme of the European Academy of Legal Theory in European Legal Culture and Jurisprudence
Start date: Oct 1, 2011,
The AMELIE project will establish the first joint master programme in legal theory (jurisprudence) in the European Higher Education Area.Law is increasingly confronted with complex global challenges. Facing these challenges requires a critical and interdisciplinary approach, largely missing in current European legal education as shown by our needs analysis. In order to achieve effective and innovative legal solutions, scholars and practitioners have to acquire additional competences and skills. Complementary to existing postgraduate legal programmes, the learning outcomes of the AMELIE curriculum will enable participants (core target groups are young scientists in law, social sciences & humanities at the beginning of their career, as well as practising lawyers):• to gain an integrated perspective on doctrinal and theoretical analysis of European andglobal issues;• to build bridges between different legal cultures in order to foster European integration;• to develop new models of regulation and governance in a comparative perspective; As core outputs, AMELIE will:1. develop an inter- and intra-disciplinary curriculum assessing current legal problems from a theoretical, philosophical, sociological and historical perspective;2. establish a virtual campus involving innovative ICT tools for e-learning and teaching;3. create a multilingual legal education environment by requiring students to follow courses in English and at least one additional language (French, German, Polish)The expected impact of AMELIE is:1. to improve the quality of comprehensive legal education;2. to enhance the employability of young legal scholars and practitioners;3. to increase the competitiveness of the European Higher Education Area in the global market;4. to contribute to the implementation of the European Qualification Framework and related NQF in the field of postgraduate legal studies;5. to foster digital literacy and virtual mobility of students, teachers and other staff.
