Adaptación del IES Adaja al bilingüismo: una puerta abierta al mundo.
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Justification: IES Adaja is a rural Secondary school that has initiated a bilingual program for the 2013-2014 school year. Much of the student body comes from small villages in the area, with a medium-low socioeconomic level and few opportunities to get out of their usual environment, access to new technologies or cultural activities. This is the reason why this school is carrying out several projects (improvement of bilingual teaching, promotion of the image of school or use of ICTs), in addition to this Erasmus+ project, in order to fight against the disadvantages of the rural environment. Objectives: For all these reasons, IES Adaja is trying to reach several objectives: - To improve the quality of education and teaching in general, and specially for the bilingual subjects. - To promote the internationalization of the school by means of courses, projects and exchanges and the use of ICTs and social networks. - To enhance the image of the school through activities, projects and the ICTs - To develop activities and innovate using ICTs applied to education. Activities: Our school has initiated a bilingual program teaching several subjects in English during this academic year (2013-2014) and an agreement with the British Council will be signed for the next year. In relation to the French language, an exchange of students with the Bonaparte Lycée de Autun has been accomplished for several years. In addition, we are working so that our higher education students can apply a traineeship abroad in an enterprise with the Erasmus+ programme. The school also wants to take part in the project eduglocal, related to sustainability and the environment, which involves five partner countries. Therefore, this year we would like to start with the key action1, learning mobility for both teaching staff and higher education students. A first step towards other actions more complex in the coming years, related to the KA2 (cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices), which would help to establish relations with other European schools, directly involving our students and using platforms as eTwinning. So, we need to enhance the skills of teachers who teach their subject in the English language. They should try not only to improve the level of spoken and written English, but also to promote the acquisition of other didactic tools more appropriate for teaching their subjects in other language and developing activities for this type of training. According to this and taking into account the requested project, the following activities will be carried out: 5) Cross curricular assesment of the CLIL course made by the participant teaching staff, the Commission for the improvement of the quality of bilingual teaching and the headmaster of IES Adaja. The main objective of this project is to improve the educational quality and thus the primary beneficiaries of this program will be the student body. In order to reach this aim, a course in training CLIL for secondary school in Oxford is being solicited for three of the professors that form part of the project. These teachers will assist in sharing what they learn with the rest of the faculty members in order to continue the improving bilingual academic subjects. For the selection of the participants in this course, there will be valued not only the possession of B2 English level, but also the experience in European projects and knowledge of ICTs and social networks applied to education. Results and impact The completion of this course will have a double impact: on one side, the Adaja IES faculty and the rest of the educational community, and on the other side, our students, authentic recipients of the program. Once the course is finished, faculty meetings will be conducted to evaluate the results and findings will be shared through the ICTs and social networks. Therefore, it is very important for IES Adaja disseminate and appreciate European support to all these projects.
