Active Citizenship in Multicultural Europe
Start date: Jun 17, 2014, End date: Nov 17, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Every day, the mass media speak to us about the hundreds or thousands of persons who try to enter illegally in Europe. Many people leave the life themselves in this attempt. The society, in general, remains indifferent to this serious problem. Some people show some indignation , yes, but not comparable to the gravity of the facts. To these facts we can add the advancing of Parties with xenophobic or racist speech. All that in an Europe every time with major cultural diversity, where we coexist with people of the whole world, hundreds of cultures, languages, customs and religions. A Europe that generally lives back to this reality. Xenophobia and racism are at the order of the day, and although not are violently manifest , they remain latent in a population surprised and confused by the exponential increase of the immigrantion , from multiple backgrounds and cultures. In response to a concern in this regard this project was born , intending to change as much as possible these phenomena. The ACME (Active Citizenship in Multicultural Europe) project, aims to combat discrimination and intolerance , helping to educate our environment for better living and appreciation of other cultures , and to develop European awareness and youth participation of two groups of rural youngsters from Spain and Slovenia , through the contrasting experiences of two countries on this issue and find out what opportunities the EU offers us to develop active citizenship and equal opportunities. The project aims to promote the exchange of ideas, and the social awareness of young participants. In addition, it tries to promote a model of healthy leisure activities through environmental friendliness , teamwork , tolerance and peaceful coexistence , cultural and social knowledge of the local community , all under the roof of youth participation , focusing in the enhancement of social participation as a transformative element of our fields. Both during the preparation and the development of exchange , young people have to be able to increase intercultural learning , knowledge of different realities , education on respect and tolerance and the elimination of taboos and stereotypes between the different participating countries, the development of communication as a basis of understanding between cultures ... Thus, we have established tools and techniques to achieve an active and participative methodology and by an educational way these objectives : workshops to disseminate the traditions and customs of both countries , traditional games, living with the families of the participants , discussion groups about the realities of young people in Spain and Slovenia , exercises and workshops on intercultural communication, activities involving interaction with immigrants from our town, etc. .. Participation in this exchange will serve to youngsters to strengthen their associative experience, and they get used to teamwork, decision-making and the assumption of responsibilities, relationships with different classes and social groups and the delegation of functions. The preparation of this type of project is a unique experience as school participation. The project should also serve to contribute to the cultural training so they can learn to respect and understand other cultures It is a bilateral exchange for 30 adolescents (fifteen per country) between 15 and 18 years, with no previous experience in the program, to be held in Caspe for 10 days (3rd to 12th July 2014)
