Activating Youth IV
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Jan 1, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Activating Youth IV was a European Voluntary Service project, within the European Commission Programme Erasmus+. The project was a long term project, involving 4 volunteers from Greece (EDRA) and Spain (Agora Cultural) aiming at creating in Faro, Portugal a youth friendly environment and culture. The objectives included the development of a local youth culture that: - gives access to information, - opportunities for international mobility, volunteering and non formal learning, - creates awareness and addresses burning issues of the local community and also the international level - promotes and enhances participation of young people with a focus on democratic life - builds the capacity of local organisations that work with youth, youth organisations and informal youth groups. The activities were developed with the coordination or partnership of ECOS, the sending organisations and other local entities that shown motivation to be part of this project. In more particular: - Youth Information Centre - IPDJ (space to inform youth on Erasmus+ possibilities. - Mobility Information Days (in social spaces, University, youth associations, events , sharing information about Erasmus+). - VideoForum de Faro (weekly video forums, followed by structured discussions and debates on social issues). - Impressions of Faro (video creation that explores and promotes Faro as a place that does not only have tourism). - Workshops (soft skills workshops for the local youth but also adults). - Algarve 2020 (project about youth participation in decision making in Algarve with consultation processes of stakeholders involved). - Focus Group of Faro Municipality (A focus group with local associations coming from different departments of the municipal structure, such as sports, health, education, art, culture, employment, that create events relevant to Youth). The methodology on the projects vary but it was based on two fundamentals which are the non formal learning aspect in regard to the volunteers personal and professional development and also the participative approaches employed in each project development. The idea was that many of the activities were supported by the local groups, with ECOS acting as a coaching body. In this way, we tend to create the space for action that could be taken over by local people and associations. The results and expected outcomes can be summarized as: - Creation of local and international cooperations - Personal and Professional Development of people directly involved in the projects (volunteers and local youth) - Enhanced information on education, employment, cultureand health towards youth - Capacity building of local youth associations, associations working for and with youth and youth informal groups - Furtner international and local synergies and cooperations In long term, we envision in creating in Faro a youth friendly culture, where there are spaces for participation and decision making, and where young people have a voice but also opportunities for their self actualization. We visualise Faro becoming a model city for Youth and become an inspiring example and practice for others to follow.
