Action!Research: a new European Methodology for Film Literacy
Start date: Sep 12, 2016, End date: Sep 12, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project answers to the challenge encouraged by European Commission of promoting Film Literacy in Europe, by carrying out an ”action research” in 4 Intermediate schools in Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Romania. The main objective of the project is to develop a common methodology for Film Literacy (FL) activities in schools to be adaptable to different contexts. The project will also promote mutual intercultural understanding among the 4 countries partners by using, as a research tool, films about intercultural and migration issues in Europe (migration flows in Europe, family reunions, refugees policies). Firstly, in a co-design phase, all partners will work together to develop common tools and methodology, based on the action-research pedagogical approach, applicable to the different contexts involved. Kids, their parents and teachers will be actively involved. Secondly, this methodology will be implemented and tested in 4 schools, one per each country partner, on a test class and a control class per each school. During this phase 8 both short and feature films (2 films per each partner), will be projected to kids in schools and 3 FL labs will be implemented by every partner every months. All partners will use the common tools developed during the co-design phase, in order to guarantee a scientific approach. An online platform will be created to ensure, on one hand, the collaboration among partners during the co-design phase and, on the other hand, during the implementation as a logbook for every partner; moreover, a specific area of the platform will be used for interaction of pupils, to post and share photos and visual materials developed during FL labs. The films screened will reflect each partner's cultural and social context and will be chosen for their cinematographic value applied to a message: during the labs trainers and experts will analyse the films and the cinematographic language will be read also for re-thinking the topic of European integration.
