The Key goal of the project is the provision of primary healthcare services (mammography exams) to women with limited or no access at all to healthcare services of any kind. The project utilizes the Ioannina University Hospital Gynecological Mobile Unit truck and its medical equipment infrastructureThe main project goals are: - To offer free-of-charge mammographs and medical information-awareness about breast cancer to women from rural areas with limited or no access to primary healthcare services (10 visits in total, 6 in Greece and 4 in Albania). - The procurement of cutting-edge medical equipment in the University Hospital of Ioannina for gynecological and obstetrical purposes. - The procurement of cutting-edge medical equipment for the Korce Health Center in Albania, so as to upgrade the level of health services provision in the region of Korce. Expected Results: 1) health condition improvement of the cross-border local population 2) development and utilisation of mobile cross-border primary healthcare , 3) improvement of the quality of services provided to the local population by cross-border health centers, including equipping existing health care units, 4) know-how transfer relating to health matters and adequately trained medical and radiology staff in Albania. 5) contributions to the closer relations of the people in the eligible border area: 4.600One major effect by the implementation of the innovative technique of stereotactic brest biopsy is that most of the cases of breast biopsies will be non-invasive, thus will not need surgery operation. This technological innovation will result to (1) major cost-savings for insurance funds, since the cost of a Mammography (~10 euro) is a fraction (estimated about 100 times less) the cost of an invasive (surgical operative) biopsy (2) unpresedented convenience for women that need breast biopsy since no surgery is needed, (3) quicker patient turnaround time since the biopsy is concluded in about 20 minutes and the patient can leave the Hospital immediately after she ends the exam.
