Acting Against Drop-Outs in Vocational Education

Currently it is a target of European policies to prevent young people from leaving education and training with only a lower secondary education degree or less. Objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy include reducing the rates of early school leaving below 10%.In the project ACT-VET, vocational education and training institutions from all over Europe will cooperate to tackle this problem at grass-roots level: By improving the quality and framework of education and training at institutional level and by implementing strategies to support pupils in danger of early school leaving, the participating VET institutions will contribute to reducing the student drop-out rate in Europe. The main objective of this project is to find new methods for increasing study motivation and creating more supportive school environments to decrease the number of student dropouts. The project aims at increasing the motivation and readiness for Lifelong Learning among young European citizens. New models of activity on how to increase the motivation of the students will be developed specifically for the needs of each partner institution on the basis of sharing experiences from all over Europe.Project activities will include the exchange of information, sharing and analyzing best-practice models, comparing them and adapting them to each partner's own activities and environment. Experiences and new solutions will be transferred between European VET providers. The project activities will not only be implemented VET staff, but also by learners and trainees: By dealing with the topic of dropout prevention they will get sensitized for their own or their peers’ problems and will be able to provide valuable peer support at their VET schools.
