Achieving Culinary Experience
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Students attending our School come from a middle to lower socio -economic background with moderate to low self-esteem and with a fear of new challenges and experiences. At the C Limassol Technical School our current and future aim is to create coherent and hard working teams of students and teachers functioning efficiently and successfully achieving their goals at the establishments where they will be undertaking their training or future posts. In addition we aim to respond to individual learners' needs. Our students need to enter the working world more competently in a constantly changing market and to deal more effectively with situations arising in a diverse social, cultural and linguistic world. By participating in a European Mobility Programme both students and teachers will greatly benefit in a number of areas. Primarily, in the social context, this project aims to enhance students' and educators' awareness of their European identity and to bring forth a new, reformed approach and development based on group work and input. In addition, both students and teachers will be continually expanding their skills, previous knowledge, strengths and weaknesses and they will reach a heightened awareness on a personal as well as on a professional level.Undertaking such a project within the Hotel and Culinary Arts Department of our School means that learning will occur during the process and the project will help students advance towards their desired personal and professional development. As far as career aspirations are concerned, students will be able to put into active experimentation a number of activities at their place of training, to approach and explore their field of study with more confidence, achieve culinary experience and improve their prospects of employability in the future either locally or in the European Labour Market. As far as teachers are concerned they will be able to monitor, motivate and support students in their venture throughout the project.Through this project students and teachers will also be given the opportunity to work collaboratively,to meet new challenges and to help build close links within the Catering Industry at a European level for further development in the future. There is also a need to further develop our students' sense of European citizenship and identity and our School's European dimension and give the opportunity to our students to take part in cooperation activities that will open the door to a more responsible social behaviour. Action 1& Action 2 :The participant students will attend training over a three week period in Hotels and restaurants in France and Germany. The syllabus for the Hotel and Culinary Arts includes International Cuisine,so this activity will be part of it, giving the opportunity to our students to improve their professional skills as well as their language and communication skills. The partners in both countries will be liaising in order to organise the activity.Staff from Mavrommatis in Paris -France, The Louis Antoine de Bougainville High School in Nantes,France and BS Lorenz - Kaim in Kronach ,Germany will be responsible to find the placements for the students. The teachers from our school will be supervising the students on a daily basis and will be monitoring their progress. Action 3: Teachers from our school will observe and attend various lectures and / or practical training concerning methods and teaching skills that the receiving organisations follow. Furthermore they will have the opportunity to teach similar courses.Such mobility programmes should be encouraged at all times for the benefit of all the partners concerned as they confirm the principle of Life Long Learning through the organised activities. It is of utmost importance that the results of the project are disseminated inside and outside the organisation: Partner Establishments,Staff members, Inspectors of the Ministry of Education and/or representatives of the Embassies, Consulates, Parents , Fellow students , Prospective students. At the end of the project cycle, Knowledge, competencies and skills will be shared and a redefinition of the Schools' needs will be performed. The collaborative reflective learning of the people involved in the project will positively influence our school and our partner organisations. Both reflective and active abilities will be utilised in order to help transform and develop existing experience for both students and teachers involved.Projects of this kind help promote development and cooperation at local, regional and European level and bring forth the European values of social equality. The promotion of regional development and cooperation has without any doubt a long term impact on all the partners and such programmes should not only be encouraged but they should also be strengthened with additional tools that will be beneficial to all the partners.
