Ability not Disability in Workplace

The reason of the project is to decrease the discrimination of people with disabilities in employment. According to the data from the Europe Statistics people with disabilities are at least 17% of the EU working age population, only 40% of them are employed, whereas this rate is 64.2% for the non-disabled. It is not corresponding to the European Employment Strategy objectives of reducing unemployment and fighting against social exclusion and EU Disability Action Plan and practical implementation of the United Convention on the rights of Disabled People. Within this context, is necessary to break the numerous barriers on the workplace. One of the more important barrier is employers wrong opinion about disabilities and abilities, lack of experience, information and motivation, existing model: "Why I must hire disabled if I can hire non disabled?" Taking these arguments as a basis, “Ability not disability in Workplace” (AnDiW) project aim is to develop managers' and trainers' competence and skills. The objective of the project is to provide employers, human resources managers, recruitment companies, trainers and students with a modern innovated useful distance education course and support methodical materials. AnDiW project is based on previously approved LdV programme pilot project “Ability not Disability in Employment” (Agreement number: 2003-LV/03/B/F/PP-172.002)The partnership that will implement the proposal counts with the participation of 5 organisations from 4 EU countries with the necessary skills and experience for the successful development of the project activities. This way, the partnership is composed of the organizations of different nature such as: a higher education state and private institutions (ISMA, Latvia and KVTK, Lithuania), the Latvian Umbrella Body For Disability Organisation SUSTENTO, an adult educational institution (VNB, Germany) and the group of experts in e-learning and online learning (STUDIO TAF sas., Italy). All these organizations will work together for the successful development of the project products.
