A Window towards Europe
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

As our society is suffering a global economic crisis and unemployment is hitting our adult students, our institution decided to research how to best serve them to find a way out of this situation. One of Erasmus + and Europe 2020 targets is to promote Employment among our citizens. In order to do so, we understand that speaking foreign languages is a key factor to strengthen the employability and mobility of people around Europe and that poor language skills are a major obstacle to the free movement of workers. These are the reasons behind our proposal for a project entitled 'A Window towards Europe'. With the aim of achieving a global view of our school needs, the Board of Management in our school agreed that all the decisions concerning our project, the selection of the courses and the criteria to select the participants should be taken within the Teaching Commission, since it is formed by the School Board of Management and the Heads of the different Language Departments (English, French, German, Italian and Extracurricular Activities). In this project our areas of work are two-fold: Methodology and Use of New Technologies. We understand our staff needs to get additional training in order to better meet the needs of our students, who come from many different backgrounds. Naturally, this training will also work towards the Continuing Professional Development of our staff, and that will have a direct impact on the linguistic competences of our adult students. By achieving these competences the chances of being promoted / employed would increase not only in Spain but also beyond our borders. Due to the dissemination of the training, materials and class observation received in the courses, the whole Educational Community (teachers and students) will benefit from this project: - We will learn about up-to-date methodological approaches in foreign language training and will get in close contact with current language use. - We will acquire the necessary skills to design and integrate online content with face-to-face classes to be able to additional learning materials. - We will work in the area of Teacher Training to be able to produce and integrate our own in-house training schemes in areas such as ICT integration. We strongly believe that we have selected the best and most highly motivated candidates in our school to guarantee the success of this project and therefore the positive impact on our Educational Community. This project will consist on a number of actions to be carried out throughout the academic year 2015-16, such as talks, and workshops, just to name a few. These actions aim at bringing Europe closer to our students as well as to all the citizens in our city. With such measures we hope our students will improve their linguistic abilities, become more aware of the European reality they belong to and feel more confident when looking for a job both within or out of Spain's boundaries.
