A universal language: Integration through the music

This project comes from the European Meeting of Bands held in late July 2014 in which all this project partners participate: Sociedade Musical e Recreativa Obidense (SMRO) (Portugal), Banda Ciudad di Staffolo (Italy ) and CIM Benimaclet of Valencia (Spain), we defined the project around a common interest the three musical organizations have: the social inclusion of youth with disabilities through music. The music provides a universal language for communication and the relationship between young people with different skills, cultural and languages. We encourage the participation of young people with disabilities in our musical entities national and international projects. This issue was decided because the three bands have today and have had young people with special needs, have tried to train and integrate them within our means in the best possible way. But we are aware that these young people need a process of personalized training that enables them to fully integrate into the band and also in society, it is for this reason that we find so important this project because we want to ensure that all young people bands become aware the importance of this issue, it is crucial that all bandmates are involved in this process. We want to be formed and learn how to work with young people with special needs, to do our bit for their social integration. For this we had the support and involvement of an organization of people with disabilities, Asperger Association of Valencia, an association has a group of musicians and music therapy workshops, which help us to know reality more closely and provide meaningful experience for youth. The project was based on a youth exchange with mixed skills from musical associations of Spain, Portugal and Italy, involving a total of 60 young people (35 young people with fewer opportunities and 15 with special needs) and 9 leaders. Will be held in Valencia (Spain) and 7 days duration in the month of July 2015. The meeting has promoted inclusion formation and exchange of experiences and best practices through the use of the methodology of formal and non-formal adapted to all participants. To ensure achievement we made a custom development of participants and using the Youhtpass as a key to this process. The project has been developed in three phases: The preparation phase: In the preparation sessions we used a methodology of non-formal education combine dynamic, games, music workshops adapted to use. The implementation phase: During this phase a youth exchange 7 day has been held in Valencia, many activities of non-formal and informal education tied around music for inclusion, in order to improve the skills of be made young people and give them many of them their first international and inclusive experience. The working methods have been workshops, assemblies, dynamic, energyzers, parades, etc. The evaluation and dissemination of results phase: During this even it was planned to have only two types of activities, but finally we made many of them: meetings with multiplier events, evaluation and dissemination activities of the project results in each of the countries will be made. The working methods have been games, dynamic, surveys and discussions on the evaluation and public events, digital exhibitions, local TV program as well as conducting a public event where they showed some of what learned, and we made a big concert between all the participants, no matter they disabilities, to approach the organization and promote their participation in the band. On the other hand we hope that the entities improve their capacity and quality making inclusive projects. The expected impact on the experience of these features has been bigger than we have expected. We have enlarged by opening the participants minds and their world view, helping to build European citizenship and more tolerant and caring citizens, also thanks to the dissemination activities made, the initiative has a great impact. It is important to note that young people learned now marked how they will faces to the future inclusion at all levels (student, work, associations and staff) Our dream is to bring the inclusion of young people with special needs, in society 15% of the population has a disability, so that the full inclusion will be real when this percentage is part of our associations, workplaces ... but as friends and partners.
